Going back to my college days, I'd have to say Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music (and solo career).  Sexy and smooth lounge lizard vocals.  Super chill.

Very happy with the mention of Kate Bush in this thread.

Still missing Elizabeth Fraser from the Cocteau Twins.

In the day, my friend gave me a box set of 7 or 8 Cocteau Twins CDs.  Mind you, some of their releases were more like singles, with five versions of two songs.  Assuming that it's Elizabeth on all the lead vocals, she can wail, yodel and and trill with the best of them, but not terribly concerned with enunciation, lol.

Yeah she's all over the place. In some albums I think this is in favour of the material. For instance I like the fact that the song in Treasure, Blue Bell Knoll, and most of Heaven Or Las Vegas are incomprehensible. I just let my mind fill in the meaning of the song.

One of their songs with actual lyrics, so poignant and profound, yet simple, is called Half Gifts.

I'm quite partial to Morrissey from The Smiths.
