Probably my top three favorites from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (and on a list of tunes I want played at my funeral). I feel fortunate to have attended a recording and live broadcast of the choir from Temple Square in Salt Lake City, with my partner Bobby, on one of our vacations years ago.
Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing definitely is by far my favorite. I never get tired of it, and hearing it has me sighing at least a couple of times as it plays, and always a big one as the orchestra is building up, and those violins start taking off…sigh, and then–the chorus returns…mm! (In spite of being partial, I have to admit–I do love Brigham Young University’s presentation as well!)…

The first choral performance I remember taking any notice of was my high school graduation in 1978. The school’s chorus did “The Road Not Taken” (which became my favorite poem and remains as such).
My fondness of chorale music most likely began shortly after Bobby and I got together in 1982.
⃰His partner of about 3 years at that time, Charles (known and introduced to me as Chuckles) was a member of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, and founding director of Berkeley’s Temescal Gay Men’s Chorus.Chuckles used to have Bobby record a lot of their performances. I started going to these functions helping Bobby, and found myself really liking the music!
One memorable event was at what was once known as the War Memorial Opera House, in San Francisco. GALA (which I think was/is an acronym for something) was an hours-long presentation of music from choruses from throughout the state, and beyond. I remember looking through the program, recognizing a song, and couldn’t wait until the number came up!
