I've used Norton for years and never had an issue, If it's infected Norton sorts it, if it's fine it plays/installs/etc.

Are the files from here, maybe someone else who has them could say if they had issues or someone would be willing to download them and try for you.

What are you using to watch them VLC Player?

Might be the player software indeed, rather than the mp4 file.

          @cannonmc:

I use the free version of Avast

I should add that after posting that, I updated the Avast program and I ended up with Chrome installed as my default browser. I didn't even have Chrome before. It also said it was making a restore point. It didn't.

That's because you didn't pay attention to what the installer was asking, you just clicked NEXT NEXT NEXT, and didn't bother to uncheck the little box that said "YES! PLEASE INSTALL GOOGLE CHROME AND MAKE IT MY DEFAULT BROWSER."  95% of crapware installs could be avoided if people would just PAY ATTENTION!

And on that note, OP, your problem is you have a Norton infection.  Remove it immediately and your problem will go away.  No computer should EVER have a Norton/Symantec or McAfee product on it these days.  They have not put out a quality product in close to a decade - that's why the only way they end up on computers these days is OEM preinstallation (system builders get paid to preinstall it) and unwitting crapware installs from Adobe.  Also don't use 'free' versions of any antivirus.  They are basically all garbage and have fine-print limitations. If you want a free one, install Microsoft Security Essentials.  If you want a paid one, get ESET NOD32.

If you now what you are doing you don't even need an antivirus. Learn to spot deviation in how your computer behaves. Your task manager will help you a lot in this regard. The computer works a lot faster without these so called "antivirus" (bloatware) installed.
I have gone now close to two years without an antivirus. If anything happens I don't hesitate from going into safe mode or removing the file altogether by booting in fedora.

Well thank you, taboi, I certainly won't install anything else until I have checked in with you.

I NEVER (see I have capitals as well) click "NEXT NEXT NEXT" - I am even one of those idiots who scrolls through the T&Cs before installing.

99% of unpleasantness on forum sites could be avoided if know-it-alls (ironic use) didn't assume people didn't know what they were doing and shouted at other members telling them they were idiots. (Have you ever seen the forums where knowledgeable people complained that the installation DIDN'T (oh, those capitals again) warn. Try the Utorrent forums for examples)

Other than that I will take your advice as seriously as …erm, a polite analogy escapes me for the moment 🙂

OMG, I'm not being taken seriously 😛

Which is perhaps just as well. The only thing serious that really upsets me is when people moan about staff trying to get us sorted out or moan about members trying to share their stuff with us.

I would say 'fuck off' to those moaners except I believe it might be against the rules.

                    🙂

Oh really now?  Sooooooooooooo then I guess you scrolled right past THIS on the VERY FIRST SCREEN?

99% of people DON'T know what they are doing - as illustrated by your claim of meticulous combing of programs for crapware, yet you didn't bother to pay attention to the first screen before you clicked the big blue button.  See, unlike you, I actually KNOW what I'm talking about. 😘

And you wonder why the rest of the world thinks that we Americans are brash and pretend to know everything.

Wish that were true but I wasn't doing an installation, I merely pressed the UPDATE button and I had no further control over what Avast did.

Is jumping to conclusions your main exercise?

PS I would never do a 'Regular Installation' of anything although by implication it seems you would. You may think you know what you are talking about, I'm just not sure where you are talking from 😞

PPS I did say in my earlier message that I was doing an Update but it would seem that escaped your EXPERT eyes

Now this should go back on topic, please?
                            (rhetoric question, no answer expected)
