I received a bunch of images from a friend who had downloaded them by subscription from a site.
I reposted them as a torrent in a few places.
Now I'm the doghouse. My friend is worried that these images could eventually get traced back to him.
I have heard of movies having some tracking technology which can be used to find who was the original subscriber/uploader.
But, I have never heard of images being able to be tracked to an account.
Does anyone know if images can be tracked?
Much appreciated if you can comment. I'd like to get out of the doghouse, and my friend would like to padlock me in it!

Thanks. I looked at Digimarc. This and other software can imbed a copyright in the image, but doesn't actually say it can track who downloaded it.

Yeah, they'd have to combine DigiMarc with embedded EXIF metadata to include individual user info (like account number or user email). User data can also be imprinted as part of the image (a barcode along the edge, for example).

Images can contain encrypted invisible information, even executable code (fortunately picture viewers don't "execute" image data).

Some studios embed visible member information into the pictures in watermark style.

Anyway it is a bad idea to distribute movies or pictures downloaded from a side with member subscription accounts having personal use licenses only as they can contain indeed member identification information.

Thanks guys for all the replies! Yes, sadly it does appear that images can now be tracked although it seems it is not widespread at theย  moment. And 'in the doghouse' means that someone is angry at you. It is similar to 'having to sleep on the sofa.' Not the best place to be!
