Seedboxing

Feel free to PM me for further details.
How?
I PMed him. So, he can respond if he wishes?

I decided to try a seedbox for various reasons.
Seems to be working good as long as the people seeding don't restrict their upload.
Now the question is what is the best method to transfer the files from the box to my computer.
I tried the FTP the file was 563 MB and the download time was at over a day. Which is not acceptable.
-
Theres no reason an FTP should take that long unless the host company is throttling it. I have tried a few seedbox companies, and I ultimately settled on DediSeedbox for a few reasons. They offer 1Gbps dedicated links with no metering, the space they offer is reasonable for the price ($15/20/25 for 400/600/800GB), and allow unlimited active torrents. They also preconfigure it with ruTorrent, FTP, and BTSync. I am more than pleased with the performance. I uploaded several new torrents recently and saw upload speeds topping over 50MBps (yes, MegaBYTES per second) during the initial seeding.
I can max out my internet connection (15Mbps/1.7MBps) downloading files from the seedbox via FTP, so a 600MB file would take about 7-8 minutes. It is also a secure/encrypted connection to the FTP so your ISP can't see what you're moving. You also have the option of using OpenVPN. The company is based in the UK and seedbox servers are in the Netherlands, and their Terms of Use and Privacy Policy are very short and to the point - they don't release info to law enforcement except in the case of payment fraud, and they don't care what you host as long as it's not fake or contains malware (most seedbox companies, especially those in countries which honor DMCA notices, explicitly ban copyrighted torrents and will terminate your service upon receipt of a takedown notice: ahemKIMSUFIcough).. They do use Paypal, but if you are paranoid you can set up a dummy account with fake info and load it using prepaid cards.
BTSync is kind of a neat option because it allows you to set up automatic downloads from the seedbox to your computer once the torrent has finished. The software is still being worked on, and it is missing some (to me important) features, but it does work. You can also manage your torrents using TransDroid, and you can even stream content directly from the box with the DivX Web plugin.

Thanks for the info. I looked into DediSeedbox and went with another because of a larger box for the same price. However, the information that they have and give has never been complete and they also set my box up wrong. They say they corrected the issue, however, I still believe they have only given me half the space I paid for. It hasn't been a week and I am already thinking about changing.

@ LEVI
Dude they should also offer you HTTP downloads (not just FTP). FTP is just single threaded for some clients. If your seedbox host setup HTTP for downloads, you can then use your favorite download manager and it would be much faster.Which company did you try?
-
Seedboxbay.
They do have HTTP. Just haven't had the time to look into download managers

For $5, that's a nice deal

For $5, that's a nice deal

400GB for $15 is cheaper per GB than 100GB for $5..
Also I believe they are based in the US, and they prohibit seeding copyrighted material in their TOS.. :afr: -
Naturally, but then on the same argument what is the point of a US-based seedbox company where it is under full neck-boot of the DMCA??
You couldn't PAY me to use a seedbox company that has language like
"The unauthorized submission or distribution of copyrighted or other proprietary Content is illegal and could subject you to criminal prosecution as well as personal liability for damages in a civil suit. You, not SeedBoxBay.com, nor its affiliates, nor any of its officers, directors, employees, agents, Merchants, Providers, Sponsors, Licensers, or the like, will be liable for any damage resulting from any infringement of copyrights or proprietary rights, or from any other harm arising from such submission."
and
"SeedBoxBay.com may elect to monitor any areas of the site or any of its services and may disclose any content, records, or electronic communication of any kind to satisfy any law, regulation, or government request or if such disclosure is necessary or appropriate to operate SeedBoxBay.com or to protect the rights or property of SeedBoxBay.com, its visitors, sponsors, providers, licensers, or merchants."
in its Terms of Service.
DediSeedbox has nothing of the sort in its policies…

That's kind of scary to see in the TOS of such a service provider. Under the US law, that more or less gives the company full access to be able to snitch you out whenever they feel like it for any reason, since at this day and age, all it takes in the USA for such things to become a matter of a "legal investigation" is to make an accusation (regardless of its validity) that you're engaging in such activity. At that point, it's pretty much guilty until proven innocent, and you must prove that you have NOT done what you've been accused of. While I agree with the principles that the DMCA was supposed to promote, I simply cannot condone any act that promotes guilty until proven innocent.

The DMCA was a joke from day one. It is beyond government overreach, because it does things like criminalize fair use and consumer control of their devices. Did you know it makes it illegal to make your own backup or digital copy of a DVD or BluRay? Even if you never share it, the act of breaking the DRM in order to make your archive copy or add it to your digital media library is illegal- and that trumps fair use. You can't unlock a cell phone (anymore) to use it on another carrier. You can't legally jailbreak/root a cell phone in order to use non-sanctioned apps or remove carrier bloatware. You can't legally install a mod chip into a video game console.
Basically the DMCA took away your right to "own" anything. Under the DMCA you pay a 'licensing fee', and the license owner (Sony, Microsoft, Samsung, Motorola, AT&T, Disney, Paramount, etc etc etc) can modify the terms at any time - they can remove features, disable access to content, impose limits, etc etc, anything they want in order to boost their profit margins. You as the poor peon who thought your PS3 would do today everything it did when you forked over $500 for it, are shit out of luck with absolutely no recourse.
-
And that is precisely why I disagree with what the DMCA has become. I agree with the whole principle behind being able to control profit loss from illegal sharing of otherwise paid content, but to take it to that extent is just ridiculous to say the least.

It didn't "become" anything. That's how it was written from day one. A lot of congressmen got a lot of lobbying money from the RIAA and MPAA to write it that way and pass it.

Originally, before the bigwigs at the MPAA and RIAA got involved, the DMCA was supposed to be intended as a tool to help curb piracy. Once they got involved as it was written, there were many aspects that were taken way out of context from the original idea behind it that were then somehow passed into law, despite things like the 4th amendment.

Yeah until they rat you out to the MAFIAA and they whack you with a lawsuit, then you'll wish you had paid a little more.. ::) Like I said, there ain't enough tea in China to get me to use a US based seedbox or VPN. And I'd love to know where you could create your own seedbox for that price.

Where does it say that they are located in the US? Did you have a box with seedboxbay?

Seedboxbay is based in Paris, France

"Using the latest hardware located in France and USA."
Seedboxbay is based in Paris, France
No, SOME of the servers are in France. SOME are in the US. More than likely the cheap seedboxes are in the US and the more expensive VPS are in France. Upon doing some research, this company has a few other names, and they don't have very good reputations over at T-I. Reports of horrible support, bad speeds, blatant ripoffs.. One of their alter-agos is ssdapp.com, which is where they actually disclose where their servers are.
Regardless, one should not be using ANY seedbox company that has a TOS that basically says they will rat you out without hesitation.

I have a question..
will it be a problem if my seedbox is based out of my country and i am using my local ip adress and my seedbox to download/upload at the same time? i mean, i have now cca 120 torrents seeding from my seedbox server, and cca 8 torrents seeding on my local pc (and local network ofcourse) … this looks like a two persons from two different countries - but its one. i am using my seedbox only for sharing (uploading) and when i want to watch some movie from here or share some gay movies that i have - then i am doing this directly from my pc, my local network .. could i have some problems with this? i mean, its pitty if i have to stop my seedbox server when i am uploading/downloading something from/to my pc
