US: UFC fighter shows support for gay rights with “Legalize Gay” underpants

UFC fighter Kyle Kingsbury showed his support for gay rights during his weigh-in this past weekend.

On Saturday, Kingsbury dropped his shorts during his televised weigh-in, revealing a pair of pink underpants with the words “Legalize Gay” on the back.

Kingsbury ultimately lost the fight against his opponent, announcing his official retirement from fighting after the match.

This move comes from a fighter within an organisation that has a tumultuous history with gay rights.

UFC fighter Jon ‘Bones’ Jones was accused in April of making anti-gay comments about a Swedish boy who had been heckling him on Twitter.

In July 2013, a UFC fighter said the company’s boss is so powerful that he would force fighters to perform sex acts on him, if he were gay.

In June 2013, a fighter said allowing gay couples to become legally married is the first step on a path that could lead to people marrying animals, children or their siblings.

In May 2013, a fighter was suspended and fined after he wrote a tweet included the word “fag”.

In 2012, UFC sponsor Anheuser-Busch condemned the organisation for its homophobia, including an incident where a UFC fighter encouraged Japanese fans who do not speak English to repeat phrases including: “I’m a fag.”
