Reputation Power
-
That is something I've no idea how it works and how it can be changed. Very strange functioning and NOT reputation power related. Reputation is voted by the heart symbol bottom left in the posts side panel. These smilies are voted bottom right of a forum post, but how that exactly influences the smiley attached to the side panel isn't very clear to me.
Popper, it was suggested I might have added the sad emoticon in the post title by mistake. I'm quite sure I didn't. I use emoticons only rarely and never in titles. I have an idea what might have happened and, perhaps why.
Regardless, it's sad that rather than simply pass on, one person out of the 160+ who viewed the gif might have decided to get a little snide. One bad comment from 70 posts and a quite prominent 'sad' face suddenly appears under my rep bar. Who knew that could happen? Not the end of the world. No-one got killed. But it bloody annoyed me.

Gone. Thanks popper.

so this reputation power is a mere thing of popularity huh? Hope it doesn't affect anything else.
-
Correct, it has no effect on anything.

I understand it annoys you and have tested a little more how it works (but don't know where to change the configuration, except to disable the voting icons all together):
The forum member gets the icon given by the majority of votes right lower corner to any of his posts, if the number of votes for smileys are equal, the last given prevails. That means if there was only one vote, it is that icon, the sad smiley it was in your case. Similar to the icon attached to a post title, but only count icon votes made to that post.

I would be very happy to see the bottom-right icon disappear - it isn't right that someone can destroy a reputation, anonymously and without reason. I argued this on another site.
The blue heart in the bottom left, I do use, but only to agree. Not my place to trash someone's posts.
But with that, you are identified and can leave a short message like 'good tip', 'helpful advice' and the like.

yup, I totally agree with you, is totally ridiculous to destroy someone's reputation only because someone dislikes his postings.

I agree, to a degree.
I like the idea that I can like/dislike a post using the icons.
HOWEVER, I agree that anonymous likes/dislikes should not count against your reputation. A name and reason should be required.

I am still fairly new to figuring out how all the pieces in the forum section function. I've only been active in the forums a few weeks now. But, after reading through this thread on the reputation power functionality, I have to agree with raphjd.
While it certainly isn't fair that a single like/dislike of a post can have such a great impact on a person's reputation, I do think that this functionality should remain. However, as raphjd suggested, it should be REQUIRED that a name and reason for the rating be included for actual acceptance and inclusion of the rating in any reputation ranking…otherwise it should simply be overlooked or discarded. Anonymous feedback with no context or way to get in touch with the person providing the feedback is not constructive / helpful.

The bottom left post side panel "heart symbol"
like/dislike is nominative, the reason can be given optional. What upset here were the bottom right post miley like votes, of which I believe you can see some stats when clicking on the left side panel smiley .
