One more suggestion, pictures presenting the upload need to be of a minimum size (I hate thumbnails - you can't see what you are downloading). I'd suggest 600x800 as a minimum size, and about 1600x2000 as a maximum (really big pix just go off screen when you hit the full screen button).

600x800 is a too high definition for many type of content. It is even above standard NTSC definition (480x640, if square pixel, respectively 360x640/400x720 if cropped from a letterboxed source with 16:9 active content, not to speak about 2.40:1 format movies).
As well vintage content from tape is often only available from transfers to VCD (320x240) and grabs from tube sites offer often only low definition quality downloads …
That is the reason for the "... pictures should have at least a width of 300 pixel, or if lower the definition of the video, ..." in the explanations to the rules, taking in account 5% overscanning at the analogue TV times. -

it looks good, with regards to the "good quality" pictures would it be reasonable and less vague to ask for "a picture of a quality which is representative of the content of the torrent"

I hope this isn't getting too off-topic but in my experience if you use Media Player Classic to make thumbnails 6 across x 6 down at about 1500 pixels wide it gives a good size picture on this site

it might seem like a lot of rules but is not, they actually let us users to continue enjoying the site and the staff to have less job

That is the case with the proposed version, because
"11. Any information, e.g. the title, categories, pictures and description must correctly represent the content of the files shared with the torrent and avoid misleading members about the content. …

It is a little off topic, but that depends partly on the definition in pixel of the screen used by the viewer. The site's picture resizing was dropped (resizing to 1024x768 pixel, basically) because of the difficulties to make it work correctly with very longish pictures. Since then, pictures are kept in their original size. If they are larger than the viewers screen, there are difficulties to view them correctly now.
Most common desktop screens have today 1080x1920, but older LCD screens 17" and 19" had 1280x1024 and 15" 1024x768. I am not very familiar with smartphone screens. I think 4x9 with 1000 pixel width is better than 6x6 with 1500 pixel width, just saying …
… I also like the plan for a better standard of thumbnails.
Can you elaborate that a little more?

Having read the new text, I'm not sure if it changes anything with regard to posting clips singly (or in small groups) that have been included in previous "collections" or torrents of complete sets (i.e. all parts of a scene released bit by bit e.g. on a weekly basis, a common practice with subscription sites).
Up to now, such new posts have not been considered duplicates because the earlier post "didn't count" even when it comprised no more than one complete set of several parts, and the new post(s) contained single part(s) or a sub-set of the full set (in the same format).
Can you please clarify if you plan to count such posts as duplicates from now on? I would certainly welcome it if you did. :cool2: -
There is indeed no change regarding duplicate interpretation / handling in the upcoming version.
The changes made to the Collection paragraph have as only intention to better transport the idea of what a collection is. It are files collected thoroughly together, because they have something well-defined in common. It are not random files put together, or files which have just a whole category in common. Therefore the words "random" and "category" have been eliminated in the list of examples.
The interpretation of the rule " 2. … Duplicates may be accepted when part of a themed collection. ..." is done permissive in both ways, in and out of a collection.
Understand a collection as a service to download all files at once, instead of the need to search them together from different single files and collections. They can be collected together by different themes and therefore overlap.
If a member likes to get only a single file or a set out of a larger collection, downloading from the collection is not the best idea:
- First, many don't know how to select only to download some selected file of a multiple file torrent and will get therefore a much larger download than what they like to get or worse stay away from the download.
- Secondly, if they know, because they haven't got all files, the tracker can't count them as seeder and will continue to count that torrent (of course not the upload) as downloading peer. The number of concurrent downloading torrents is limited (see the Downloading Rules) and those seeding of incomplete torrents can quickly occupy all slots and block further downloads for "bad ratio" even if the member got the maximal 15 because of a good share ratio.
You comment made me think to a rule (?) that single video torrents already available in collections need to indicate a link to that collection.

Oops, I didn't mean to sound disappointed. But you're right, I would have preferred a change in the policy. My problem with clips appearing on their own, sometimes just a week or two after they were posted as part of a full set of parts (or a smallish collection), is two-fold: It feels like a rip-off of the original poster (rightly or, quite possibly, wrongly so, if the new poster has his own source), and more importantly, to me these torrents are unnecessary clutter. I mean, why do we have a no-duplicates policy in the first place? I assume that it is exactly for those two reasons, i.e. to "protect" the original poster of a file, and to avoid torrents that provide nothing new reducing the overall attractiveness of the range of torrents on offer here. But I may well miss other aspects, as I did with the one you made about less experienced users having trouble selecting individual files from a torrent, and I also generally think that generous interpretations of rules are preferable, so my reply wasn't intended as an implied criticism.

Every day or so I stop in here & view the new posts. & lately there are more & more files that could be considered 'duplicates'. The only difference is that they have changed the file format or something just so. One day I read the same title 3-in-a-row down the page. That is OK by this site. It's the EXACT same title; only the size/format/whatever has been changed. There are Sooooo many rules of what is or isn't allowed. I change formats of every item I download from here. I combine movies that are multiple part to make a 'film' that plays for several hours at a time.
With all these rules I will never even attempt to upload anything that I have manipulated for my own purpose. I change things so as to maximize all the space on my HDD. Almost all of the photo sets I have garnered from this site have been resized & turned into spectacular slideshows. I don't think that type of thing is allowed here either, at least I can't remember ever seeing one.
So for now; I guess what I'm saying is that I will continue to contribute by downloading & seeding only; until that is taken away from me & I get banned from the site.

One thing to remember is that YOU DON'T GET BANNED FOR POSTING A DUPLICATE!!!!
You get a very pleasant message from a staff member saying something along the lines of 'you've just posted a duplicate, we'll hide it until your present downloaders have finished. But please don't let this stop you from uploading in the future'. I know I've had one.
It's similar if you upload a banned 'content'.
It's a great help to the staff if you can search for duplicates before you seed (but robs me of 50 points if I would have spotted it
) but the staff are not sitting there waiting to ban people (except for the obvious stuff).So if you have a better/bigger/smaller version of what has been posted before there is nothing to stop you posting.

Don;t forget the users are the first line duplicate police :police:. You have to report it so that we then can look at the reported torrent.

Just throwing it out there: Staff are all Member Users too! (as illustrated by my 1.17 TB :afr: of downloads :cum:
We just want the same things everyone else wants in a torrent site: simple, easy, friendly, great selection of quality content.
Add the 'extras' of full service Forum/Helpdesk, onsite integrated Chat and Multinational Membership = GayTorrent.ru! which pretty much has something for everyone :mout:
