My first time was good. Really, really good. The long-term effects were good in that it started the process of me "coming out to myself". Growth is often painful and I was fairly young, so I spent a number of years working through the conflict between "I really like this" and "I really don't want to like this". My biggest breakthrough was when I realized that I could like sex with other guys and it didn't change or require a change in other aspects of my life. I grew up in one of those small cities where the entire thing was like on big suburb. My only understanding of "gay" was scary leather dudes with whips or guys in dresses who acted like women. I'm very fortunate that I had that first time when I did and that it was such a good experience because it started a process of growth that I think would have been much more painful and awkward if I had delayed starting it until I was in my 20's (or later).
