Mom who tortured her 8-year-old son for "being gay" to death pleads guilty

Pearl Sinthia Fernandez, the woman who helped her boyfriend torture her 8-year-old son to death because they thought he was gay, has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. Her boyfriend, Isauro Aguirre, has already been convicted.
Gabriel Fernandez’s murder shocked the nation when the horrific details of his short life were revealed. The boy was found in May 2013, with a cracked skull, broken ribs, and burns, and died days after being hospitalized.
The jury in Aguirre’s case recommended the death penalty. His formal sentencing will happen in March.
Pleading guilty will allow Fernandez to avoid a jury trial where prosecutors were expected to seek the death penalty. Her defense lawyers argued that she should escape capital punishment based on her low IQ. The judge is expected to sentence her to life in prison.

I'm a bit surprised she didn't try to pull the "freedom of religion"-bit & claim that she was righteous in killing the boy. These dark days I've come to expect that.

Sadly people like her do exist in this world. And on her 8 year old son?? That's just too cruel man.

I don't think she'll last very long in prison considering her crime against a child, her own child.
Hopefully she'll suffer before her end. -

What she did was so cruel. I can't understand how a mother does this to her young child. Some people shouldn't really have children.

The last thing I can find is 15 Feb 218, saying that she plead guilty to 1st-degree murder and did a plea bargain for life without parole to avoid the death penalty.
The jury in the boyfriend's trial recommended the death penalty, but the judge will make the final decision, which was supposed to have happened in March 2018.
