It's complicated.
We developed the Clinical Gender Affirmation Scale (CGAS), drawing items from official guidance issued by the American Psychological Association, American Psychiatric Association, World Professional Association for Transgender Health, and American Academy of Pediatrics
They also drew on a scale for measuring Left-Wing Authoritarian (LWA) beliefs. & they drew in measures of USA-style liberal-conservative identity. & measures of support for political violence, like Kill Charlie Kirk & Kill Trump.
They found
- CGAS (extreme transgender ideology) predicts LWA (authoritarian left-wing beliefs)
- LWA predicts CGAS even after you correct for age & USA liberal-conservative identity.
U'd expect "being liberal" for sure, and "being young" maybe, to give more CGAS. But........
.......even after u correct for age & correct for "being liberal", LWA (left-wing authoritarianism, that goes beyond "I am liberal") is still extra good at predicting CGAS (trans extremism).
- LWA & CGAS, now closely tied, both predict support for political violence.
Here's where LWA predicts support for violence:

Here's where CGAS predicts support for violence.

- "Conclusion: Three findings pull in the same direction. People who strongly endorse gender ideology positions score dramatically higher on left-wing authoritarianism than their political identity alone would predict. Furthermore, both LWA and CGAS predict support for political violence."
Authors further note, "gender ideology may function as an ideological accelerant, telling left-wing authoritarian[s]...who the enemy is, why the situation is urgent, and - in those already disposed toward force - that violence is legitimate..... [although,] Several limitations constrain causal inference. CGAS may arm LWA, LWA may draw individuals toward CGAS, or a common third factor may drive both. The present data is consistent with all three accounts and cannot adjudicate between them."
