Change in search behaviour with new site?
-
I have been a long time user. I am not sure when it happened, but today I noticed a change in the search behavior. Before I would start the site, go to the search page, search a term and several results from different categories would populate. Now nothing shows up. I need to go to a specific category and search but I only get results from that category. This change is not due to the new design, as my first few days using the new design this didn't happen. I think this change happened sometime this week or late last week. I hope it will be reverted as it makes search much less useful.

@bi85qad Have you, perhaps, made any changes to your personal search settings? I've not used 'Search' much myself in the last day or two, though I did do one a few minutes ago and it behaved "as expected".
There's a very useful explanation of some of the changes - and of things that have always been so but I didn't realise until now - if you click the little question mark next to the pin in the Search bar.

@bi85qad check this page, try adding some categories to your default search and see if works: https://www.gaytor.rent/my.php#sec-content

Thanks for flagging this, and thanks bi85qad for the clear description, and ianfontinell for pointing at the default categories, that was exactly the right lead.
You were both right about the cause. A change had crept in where typing a search term would quietly limit your results to your default categories (the ones set at My > Content). So if the thing you searched for lived outside those categories, you would get few or no results, and picking a category manually was the only way around it. Not what anyone expects when they just type a word into search.
That is now fixed: a keyword search looks across all categories again, like it used to. Your default categories still apply to the plain browse/landing view (that is what they are for), and if you deliberately pick categories for a search, those are still honoured.
No action needed on your end, just give search another try. Shout here if anything still looks off.

@Joker Thanks for replying and fixing it so quickly. I tried again and it is back to the normal behavior.
