Many people who otherwise felt they were straight realize later in life they're actually bisexual or even totally gay.
Could also have been triggered due to his failed heteronormative relationship, so maybe subconciously he wants to test waters in a relationship with a male partner.

Perhaps he had fallen into the trap of thinking that because he is "traditional heterosexual" that he couldn't possibly like men and disregarded the several times he had "run it through my mind a couple times to see how it feels". He was probably bisexual and never admitted it to himself before because of his "traditional" masculinity. Its great to let go of labels and take things as they come.

That's such a cute story. Loved that the date was going to be a cuddle date, hehe. Guy might have felt safer since it was an effeminate dancer. Loved the other story too about the tennis partner.
