Is the word "Bareback" a gay term?

Can I bring up "Bareback" when I talk for example with a group of friends who are not gay, will it be considered a gay term?

Bareback started out as a gay term, but I would say most younger people in the west know what it means.
Bareback can be used for either gay or hetero, despite its original meaning of unprotected anal sex.
