A new report from the Centers for Disease Control has found that syphilis infection is on the rise among gay and bisexual men in the United States.

Still a good reason to use a condom.

I get an annual test for Syphilis and HIV, everyone should. Syphilis isn't that big of a deal unless you don't get tested.

It's not always that easy.  Not everyone has access to proper medical services. I live in the UK and the NHS is a nightmare.

I live in the UK and I think that is an exaggeration

Lived in SW London for 2 years. Service I received is excellent. Sexual health clinic also provided solid service too.
Depends on the GP office you go to I suppose!

My GP in Brighton refused to refer me for 20 months and I ended up with permanent nerve damage in both hands. I only got referred because he went on vacation and his replacement referred me.
I was almost killed because of the Scottish NHS screwing up and letting me have a massive ear infection for 5 months, back in 2008. My specialist appointment was at 11am and I was on the OR table at 1pm. My hearing has been bad since then and only now am I able to get 1 hearing aid. My hearing hasn't changed much since 1 Jan 2009 and I qualified for a pair of hearing aids back then, but the NHS never offered them to me, even though I asked. Now due to "changes" in the Scottish NHS, I can only get 1 hearing aid and it takes nearly a year to get from the day they take the ear impression. I should have an NHS hearing by summer 2017.
It's purely a postcode lottery on how good the NHS is.

Another +1 to UK NHS service. I had the worst case of Gonorrhea and I couldn't walk the pain was so bad. The time I arrived at the A&E up until the moment of release (which was the next day after having to stay overnight), I was taken care of quite well. Doubt I would have received that standard of care back here in the US. Although I was living in SW London where basically every stop along the tube has a GUM clinic nearby
And yes, please test regularly! I contracted syph a few months ago. Those penicillin shots right in the ass hurt like a mofo.

That's bad. Hope everyone takes better care of themselves.
