Not Receiving Points

@bw170765 This forum is now running on brand new software! Those points were a part of the old forum.

Before implementing any changes or features (including points, if reimplemented - keeping in mind that feature has been abused), it is very important that all of the bugs and potential problems are addressed first.

There are more notes on this in the top post of this topic where it says Notice To All, and future updates may be there as well.

@bw170765 We are talking Reputation points, yes? To achieve a higher total, your post or comment needs to be "upvoted" by another member, each instance providing a point.

You may notice that your current total of one point translates to your one "Best Post" on your home page -- that comment received an upvote.

It's been my experience -- in the old and new Forums -- that posters get more thumbs up -- or points -- when they contribute items that are breaking news, or an interesting question that generates ongoing discussion.

Wishing people to have a good day, or other small responses, may be very positive and kind, but less likely to generate upvotes.

And sometimes I've written a topic that I thought was just crackin' good -- and no one replied, lol.

I'm sure your point totals will go up as your participation increases. Right now, other than climbing out of the Lurker category, I'm not sure of other benefits to running up point totals.

Perhaps some higher "point-total category designations" have yet to be reached by anyone, or perhaps this Forum is putting less emphasis on it. And frankly, I think that would be a good thing.

Edit - Yes: Users, Most Reputation. It's different from the old forum.

Thought he meant points to use towards buying upload credit (which has been abused so many times because we do love our porn and movies, and end up downloading more than we can upload to fairly share).

one time additional 600 sbp for for First Time Upload Program.

Btw even before, GTRU does not give points on torrent comments only in the old forum format

In the old forum you get 1sbp for every reply u post on a topic.

3sbp if you posted a new topic and it got a reply.

That was before.

@kalayaan And that was abused because some of us needed those points to get more of what we wanted despite not being able (or willing enough) to upload enough fairly as we all have to share the burden of our desires together.

As you shared, there are still lots of ways to get those points. Easier than posting so much.

Oh, that Ricky got me by a single minute, because I wrote a book.

But it gives me a chance to reiterate, in the old Fourm, reputation points -- and the ability to be catty and assign negative reputation and the accompanying red reputation bar -- were widely abused by some of the biggest rule-breakers on GTRU -- those unkind souls are now banned and gone.

So, I'd rather keep the Forum simple, and not implement a system where people endlessly strive for points by adding material that, frankly, is often just clutter.

@ricky See, I'm giving Ricky's last post an upvote, because I got him excited. The reasons for upvote don't have to be profound, but again, meaty responses (bwaaah!) will get you more uovotes.

While ironically, I stress, let's not make upvotes the raison d'etre for commenting and participation.

And for his generating a thread that led to some useful discussion, I upvote our original poster, bw170765.

Yes, and as those who upvote can now be easily seen on each post, imagine the slap-fights that downvotes would create!

People can still add emojis of disapproval, but thankfully, there are not many, and honestly, these yellow emojis all look like melted Pac Men to me.

@flozen Ha, the banana is still available on torrent comments!

Am thinking there may be a lot of the smaller improvements once all the bugs are vanquished, and some of the biggest asks are considered and/or implemented. (Not a promise, as @raphjd and our site owner both have a lot of work on the plate and it keeps staying full even while it is being worked on!)

That's a sensible rule -- although I was actually referring to my post right above yours here.

Before you responded, I did not have the ability to edit mine, using the "three-button" icon on the right.

The "flag" is particularly ironic, because I wouldn't be flagging my own post, correct? And when I click on the three dots for your post, there is no option to flag! More bugs to swat, perhaps.
