My favorite "non-Bond" Connery film is The Offence (1973), directed by Lumet and a grim, ripping role that showed Sean's acting range went far, far beyond vanquishing supervillains.

Born to a hardscrabble life in Edinburgh in the bygone era of 1930, perhaps that sheds some light on his unfortunate remarks about slapping women.
Later on, I would howl with laughter when Connery was played by Darryl Hammond on Saturday Night Live's "Celebrity Jeopardy." The first of that long-running skit is embedded in the article below, but as years passed, Hammond's Connery got better – even saltier and more hostile to Trebek.

And now, a month later, cause of death revealed. Connery – like most anyone at age 90 -- had several comorbidity factors, including heart failure, senile dementia and pneumonia:
At least he was with his wife and comfortable, looking at the ocean off the Bahamas…
