I assume you've seen Le souffle au coeur:

No, haven’t. Is it a good one to save for a day that needs attention-grabbing shock value? Between Covid, politics, and other stressors, there may be more than a few days to look at different genres.

It's actually not that shocking as a whole, more humorous.   Pretty much the opposite of what you might expect, just very French.

Love the French - one of the main reasons the variety of languages here work very well is that they usually will have subtitles. Just as everyone may have a different tastes, some films and some actors will have that extra element worth enjoying again.

        @bc22:

Love the French - one of the main reasons the variety of languages here work very well is that they usually will have subtitles.

I use subtitles even on English language films if they are available.  That started years ago with a Scottish film (Trainspotting, maybe?) because I find it difficult to understand that dialect.  Then there was some Australian film where it was hard to catch every word and the next thing you know, it was any film that had subtitles available.  I get a lot more out of watching them with subtitles.

VLC now has an extension that will search for subtitles by hash, which really makes it easy in most cases.  It also allows search by name but still doesn't always find anything but there are several sub sites now.

At some point I started contributing some subtitles, starting with fixing some really bad subtitles and then cleaning up machine translations, which is really not very difficult, just very time-consuming.

I started translating subtitles for Sebastiane to French but between my awful Latin and my awful French and all of the lines being out of synch, I got discouraged.  Even if I ever get around to finishing those subs, someone fluent in French will have to clean them up.  Hopefully someone will do that after I release them.

Plex has the ability to grab subtitles from OpenSubtitles, that came in handy one time so far. Other times trying did not find an exact match, but it gave several options but none of them synced.

Will have to read up some more about VLC and hashes.

In case you still haven't watch Land of Mine (Under Sandet) 2015. Have it a go.

Quite brutal and gripping. Some moments of compassion can be so rare.
            8/10
            Thanks Kalayaan

Engaging fresh fun without feeling outdated, along with a couple of touching moments. Henry Cavill being cast as her brother Sherlock is a bonus.

I saw it yesterday! My boyfriend really liked it. I didn't like it so much… I got bored many times along the movie. It's true that Henry Cavill is a bonus (a hot bonus!).

                I would say 6/10

A haunting moment of forbidden regret, borne of hidden desire and manipulation. This film was engaging, and it will stick with me for a while.

Have walked those very streets, it brought back some memories. Learned some new things about France. If the immigration process really does include women's rights and LGBT issues as portrayed, then it is better than a good number of other countries. Subtle homoeroticism left me yearning for more to happen between Yoav and Emile.

                          The main actress simply rocks!

Yesterday night my boyfriend and I saw the new version for the classical "Rebecca"… and we were very disappointed by the actors in the movie... nothing to do with the original and wonderful Hitchcock's movie.

I do not recommend it whatsoever

I can feel you, it's a far cry from the classic 1940's film. Talents of the actors were wasted here.

I really tried to like this movie because of Armie Hammer, but I can't
