Am I the only one who thinks more than a 10 GB torrent download is a mistake? These huge downloads don't last at all - most folks don't have the storage capacity, and have to break them up. Poof - they disappear.

(And yes, before you ask, I don't post new torrents - but I do my best to share, and reshare upon request.)

(And honestly, I frequently see newbies trying to upload multi-GB torrents without a clue as to the capacity of their internet connection.)

      Warm regards,

I agree if it is a collection and have posted about it many times.  Not only is there the problem you point out of few long-term seeders of the complete torrent if any, here are some other issues:

Usually the videos are poorly described.

If someone downloads only part of a torrent and then seeds it, the torrent will continue to occupy one of their download slots.

No one will ever use seedbonus points to make a huge torrent freeleech, even if they have enough to do so in the first place.

A DMCA takedown request for one video in a collection will nuke the entire torrent.

On the flip side, we have people uploading 30 torrents at a single go with tiny files.

Tracker resources for a 10gb torrent is only a minuscule amount more than for a 10mb file.

The other day we had a member who uploaded a "deconstructed"  larger torrent.  He uploaded the videos separately.  That's a huge resource hog for the tracker.

Is that because each torrent individually needs to communicate with the site server every 30 minutes to update stats and connections?

                Exactly.

Every active torrent has to talk to the tracker every 30 minutes, regardless of size.

If you have a 10gb folder of 50 videos in a single torrent, your client and the tracker only need to talk to each other once every 30 minutes.

If you have 50 separate torrents for that folder, your client and the tracker have to talk to each other 50 times every 30 minutes.

On the tracker side, every torrent is deemed "active" waiting for member clients to contact it.
