Every gay person needs to do what they can, even if it's just a little, to help the LGBTQ+ community. The world still isn't fully accepted of our community because of religious bigotry.

Agreed with raphjd – and to my understanding, we're both secularists on the scale from agnostic to atheist -- yes, much homophobia stems from religious intolerance.

Yet, unfortunately, there's also a world of intolerance that springs from non-religious origins. We need to oppose it all.

I disagree with this

If you look at the history of human civilisation there are tons of recorded instances where homosexuality was normalised. Maybe not celebrated, maybe sometimes mocked, but never outright hated.

This all changes specifically with the advent of Abrahamic theology (not just all religions, specifically the cursed religion of Abraham).

Also, from my own experience, growing in Saudi Arabia I found people's tolerance to be directly proportional with their religiousity. When I come out to my simpleton barely-religious friends they are perfectly fine with it and sometimes joke about it. But the more religious someone is -regardless of how well educated- they are always more homopohic.

I believe that human nature if left on its own would not care about the existance of homosexuality. It is specifically abrahamic religious culture that breeds homophobia.

I am an atheist, too, but I must admit that there's a lot of homophobia that has nothing to do with religion. For example, in Spain, most of the homophobic attacks come from extreme right-wing and fascist parties and they do not represent any religious tendency.

gay lives matter, too. this age, everyone matters. whatever color, whatever gender, we all matter.

I completely agree with all the comment that point out that it does not necessarily have to do with religion or political views, especially broad terms like left and right. At the end of the day there is no detailed fixed definition for any of those terms that people use to identify themselves as.

Additionally I want to add that even member of the LGBTQ community have very different perspectives when they say they want to support it.

For instance some gay, bi etc people are very much against pride parades for instance (at least in my country), for various reasons, most of which "scream" that they simply seek acceptance through supporting a more um "serious" demeanor, as if to be accepted you have to be solemn and not stand out in any way that other people might find "flamboyant" or not serious enough.

I remember my first time witnessing a pride by complete accident, I felt so relieved. I was about 21-22 deep in the closet, seriously believing that gay people can simply just sit home and watch porn and nothing else (yes I was dumb).

Being flamboyant or being a drag queen dancing at the front row of the parade does not mean in any way that you are doing a disservice to the "movement". In fact, I would wager that promoting a more heteronormative image as the more serious one is pretty much internalised homophobia, because it leads to judging people who are just like you simply based on how they express themselves.
