Queer As Folk UK - reboot
-
I loved Skins the 1st version. I loved the US version more but looking forward to this one - wary of it though…
-
The original UK version had a tiny amount of money to produce the show, compared to the US version.
This is just the way it is. It doesn't mean that the US version is better, except production values, but that they have more money to spend.
Quite often the US versions have studio bosses micro-managing everything which turns it to shit.
Red Dwarf is a prime example. The US version had great production values, but the studio chose the wrong actors. Turning "Lister" into a frat bro ruined it for me and the rest of the crap was icing on the hatred cake. If you watch the documentary, Hugh Grant was supposed to be "Lister" but his movie schedule forced the studio to choose the other actor. Fucking HUGH GRANT as Lister; WTF were they thinking. Later on, despite the failure of the US series, they wanted to make the movie. Once again, the studio wanted Hugh Grant to be Lister. (Not Hugh, but the producers/writers) Grant & Nailer refused and the movie never got made.

Actually, I've first watched the American version of this back in 2007 (my brother bought the whole 5 season when he went in US) and I loved it, so I got curious of the UK version of this which was aired a year earlier than the US version and after watching the whole season 1 & 2, I loved it a tad bit more.
Whereas the US version although very funny has lots of seriousness in it's version during Season 1, UK version has a lot of humour in everything even though the topic is serious. Even the lesbo scene was relegated to minor story and it always includes either one or all of the 3 lead characters.
Aiden Gillen who plays Stuart Jones is perfect for the part (and I'm glad Christopher Eccleston recommended him when he deem that he is not suited for the part), not a hunky type of man, Aiden has that devilishly handsome face you would often sees in a male model, he has a nice teenage boy body and looks young for his age.
Craig Kelly as the naive and lovable Vince Tyler who is always insecure about his look is also perfect for the part that although he has a pleasant open face, men would always prefer the looks of the character Stuart.
Charlie Hunnam who plays the twink Nathan Maloney is adorable as they came and his lines are so funny especially when he delivers his diatribes about running away to London and getting murdered. He looks 15 going on 16 (he is 18 going 19 at that time), from his own mouth he did say that although he has done frontal in this series, censorship did not allowed it to be shown on TV (even in the deleted scene and extended scenes, it is not shownwhich is a pity)
Even the supporting cast are all good especially the mother of Vince Tyler, Hazel (Denise Black) their sort of singsong English Accent are just lovably funny.

Of course I give it a try, R.T. Davis is good with this kind of soap opera stuff and I loved the first series. Not so much the US-remake but a new RTD version has the potential to become great.

Even during their original broadcasts, the frequent (unending?) bar scenes in QaF seemed very stilted and unreal, but maybe it was budgets, or I'm judging against bars in bigger metro areas.
I'm just not a fan of most gay reboots. Let's bring in some new gay ideas and new gay shows for the new times in which we live.
Don't even start me on the Queer Eye reboot – as example, they perform a FTM makeover that's only slightly more enlightened than one on the original show, but I find the overall "we're valued by straight people when we improve their lives" premise very, very dated.
In any event, I would call the reboot Queer-Ass Folk, just to get in people's faces… :crazy2:

From what I've been reading, it seems like it's a modern version of the old show.
It will be based in the same area, telling the story of a group of friends in the current time.
If it's done right, it could show the difference between the times of the 2 series.
-
Wow, that´s really nice. We need new gay shows.
-
If they bring back Charlie Hunnam I'm all for it! Though in all seriousness I think it would be fun to see a modern day reboot. I watched the show as a young closeted middleschooler and it was nice to see gay people on TV, so I have fond memories.

I LOVED the original version of the show. RTD really nailed the characters there. One even popped up again (Hazel) in his also excellent show, Cucumber.
-
i really enjoyed the original.

It would be nice to see a little more diversity in it. Maybe set it somewhere other than Manchester

Never watched the show, I do indeed remember some of the sex scenes tho, I'd watch it now, hopefully they feature full frontals and lot's of sex scenes

-
Any idea when we will get to see it?

Ok, here's an update on the show, from Aug 2019.
The show has been delayed due to switching from Bravo to NBC-Universal.
Russell T Davies is the Exec Producer (along with Lee Eisenberg and Emily Brecht) and storyline creator.
Stephen Dunn is the main writer.
8 people were cast for the Bravo run series but no idea if they are still part of the project now that it has moved to NBC-U. Ezra Miller (yummy) was cast to play the Stuart/Brian type character, but again I don't know if this is still the case.
The context of the story is that there was some sort of tragedy and how the club going group copes and find support within the gay community.

I'm confused… Is there gonna be a kind of remake of the original series from 2000?

It's not a remake of the orginal series.
It will take place in the same city, with a new set of characters. Think of it as; the next generation.

Ok, got it now!

Thanks!
