maybe they dont see it as being ruled by eu but as having support and benefits from the eu membership? kinda like most sensible and smart people would think about it i guess?

If Scotland wants to be independent, then its idiotic to want to be ruled by the EU. If they must be ruled by the EU, why try to force rUK to stay as well? It's a totally hypocritical stance.
