If you ask me, those guys are obviously showing off their privates.
Assuming they are not that DUMB to understand that wearing shorts that are too short/tight have a really high risk of exposure.

If sweating is the issue? Then it's a lame excuse. Because no matter what garments you're wearing, you're still going to sweat when you work out. So wearing and not wearing underwear will practically give the same result. LOL.

I haven't personally seen one myself when I used to go to the gym. Then again, people in my country is accustomed to wearing tight brief anyway, and moreso, longer jersey pants when they work out or do sport. So the chance of seeing is very slim. Not to mention, as soon as one has such incident, he will get complaints from other members too.

Wow, that's really exciting.  I wish all of the guys at my gym were freeballers too.

Interesting. That seems like the type of situation (working out, any kind of physical exertion) where you'd want the support that underwear gives you, if not even specific support garments like jockstraps. I'm assuming this is not a co-ed gym? I can't imagine the women would be happy with that trend.

I can only speak for myself.

But I think guys don't want their underwear to get sweaty or they feel more comfortable that way.

I don't know. I don't go to the gym so I'm only speaking on observations.

Wow…. time to join a gym and find out!  It wouldn't bother me at all to see guys like this, but imagine it has to be on purpose and to show off.  Sweat would be absorbed better with a breathable undergarment, and the balls really need support when working out, but I certainly wouldn't complain.

Living in NYC, there's quite a few cruise gyms where the showers and steam rooms serve the purpose of releasing all that pent up testosterone from the workouts  >:D . Immediate gratification. Works beautifully for motivation.

And yes, absolutely. It's to purposefully flash.
Same thing with tights. Super short shorts. Anything that purposefully bulges out your crotch, etc.
                Yes. It's for show.

When it comes to restrained movements, compression-gear can come in handy rather than loose clothing that might end up catching. But even with that, there are some that are meant to just compress vs the ones that purposefully accentuate, either by functional or aesthetic design.

I don't really do cardio so wouldn't know about why people wear loose-clothing… Apart from taking part in the cruise, I just can't imagine weight-lifting without wearing form-fitting clothes.

Hold that thought. When it comes to torso-days, I definitely prefer loose muscle tanks to make sure my arms and lats don't feel restrained.
I guess I've actually only worn shorts for my bottoms. Huh. Didn't realize.

I never go commando though... I mean... Yes... We're all cruising but.. Idk. Leave some for imagination rather than showing the perfect imprint/outline? xD

                  show offs

a proper supporter is more needed, especially in weight lifting. because a possibility of a hernia being produced by all that excess muscular pressure would make it more likely to occur

The reason I don't wear is that the gym shorts have lining on the inside - the mesh type negating the need to wear underwear!
