Bruce Springsteen has cancelled a concert in North Carolina, joining business groups in condemning a state law that rolls back protection for gay and transgender people.

The law invalidated several local anti-discrimination measures that protected gay and transgender people.

It also requires people to use public toilets that correspond to the sex listed on their birth certificates.

Major companies like Apple and Bank of America have criticised the law.

"Some things are more important than a rock show and this fight against prejudice and bigotry — which is happening as I write — is one of them," Springsteen said in a statement.

"It is the strongest means I have for raising my voice in opposition to those who continue to push us backwards instead of forwards."

Springsteen and his band were scheduled to perform in Greensboro on Sunday.

That's okay. One genius cancels, two turds fill in the gap. Def Leppard and Justin Bieber will both be playing in Greensboro later this year. Nothing like aligning yourself with hatemongering hypocritical christianist bigotry in order to cash in by pandering to the worst of your fans. Some people are automatically on the right side of history. Others have to "evolve," but not everyone is able to do that as fast as needed. These immature but inked up macho men probably would have been just as happy to perform in South Africa during apartheid's ugly reign, perhaps even agreeing with Dick Cheney that Nelson Mandela should not be freed from prison because Mandela, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 (less than a decade after Cheney's congressional votes on the matter) was "a terrorist."

I agree with an Artist who does this, after all aren't people allowed to voice their discontent.

Also this should be a wake-up call to all of those people who don't vote.
If you want change then get out and vote; if the politicians are doing things that they say are the majority, which in fact aren't, then vote them out.
          Take back the democracy.
