McDonalds in Australia do not call them slushies - although they are identical to what a slushie is
They look different, they are served in clear plastic large cups with domes, and are called "Frozen Coke" and there is like 3 flavours - you can get Frozen Spiders too which is the sundae whip on top

There is a price war amongst the fast food restaurants - and i think it is down to $1.00… its basically flavoured ice, like a slushie

$1 is £0.72 in England
That would buy you little or nothing in a café or from a street food stall. But a quick look on a leading grocery store website shows:
6 pack of tomatoes - grown under glass and tasteless
1kg of bananas
800g store brand white sliced bread
6-pack of Kingsmill crumpets
Litre of store brand orange juice (with or without 'bits'!)
1kg of white English sugar (made from East Anglian beets)
454g pot of store brand jam or marmalade -

Here in midtown Manhattan, at a convenience store, $1 gets you a very small candy bar, for example. A cup of fruit yogurt? Not for a dollar.
A cup of coffee, no matter how small, is a rare find for a dollar. Maybe at a sidewalk food cart, where you could also get an apple or banana – but probably not both, unless it was midnight and you got a "deal."
It's a pretty small list!

Today, was clear of the Midtown/Broadway rip-off zone, and was relieved to see a Trader Joe's mega-special on bananas for 19 cents each.
Peaches went from 79 cents to $1.29 each, so you could have certain varieties.
Even some McDonald's franchises in Manhattan don't participate in the "Dollar Menu" promotion, but then again, is it really food? :afr:
