So true. When machismo is the norm, sports like bodybuilding is elevated to national interests I suppose. Same goes for Pakistan, Afghanistan etc.

So true. When machismo is the norm, sports like bodybuilding is elevated to national interests I suppose. Same goes for Pakistan, Afghanistan etc.
I think the cases with Russia and the Middle East are different, but yeah, where there is a lot of homophobia activies like bodybuilding so full of homoerotic meanings are ironically deeply embraced.
As you said (even though bodybuilding may not be that popular across society) it looks like bodybuilding is elevated to the state of some kind of national aspiration among men as paranoia about homosexuality runs strong in the pyschology of Russian men.
