Opinion on Mariah Carey?

JLo is better
Nah, they have completely different styles so there's no comparison here, her voice obviously is not what it used to be but I still like her and I like JLo (especially the 90's & early 00's stuff). Mariah is a fucking Diva she like to throw shade and being bitchy and I don't see why people complaing about that, right now everyone do that shit and no one bitch about it, from my experience ppl that complaing about mariah most of the time are very young ppl that don't really know her, they didnt grow up with her stuff, it's like what happened with nicki minaj & lil kim, sincerely this "old vs new" situations are very boring to me but ppl love to eat that shit.

I know vocally Mariah is better, but I always have prefered JLo's songs and think she's more sympathetic too. So I guess it's just personal taste.

Mariah to this day still has the longest running #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with Boyz II Men, "One Sweet Day." 16 weeks! Until that incredible feat is knocked down, she shall remain Queen. Even after the record is knocked down, she'll still down in history for said record, something a lot of other artists don't have.
Beyond that, she is a diva and it has hurt her many times. I'm sure we all remember her feud with Whitney Houston that cost her dearly. One year she sat out in the Grammy audience and didn't receive a single award, partly due to her shading Whitney. Glad she made up with Whitney in '99 and did that song with her because they were ready to shut Mariah out forever over that mess lol.

Then again there are people who like to judge people on how they dress, prefer to see insecurities as self obsessession and try and repudiate other people's talents for no reason but to be bitchy for the sake of it or be the dissenting voice… maybe that's you though I'd hope not.
IMO a genius singer and songwriter with vocal chops and musicianship to die for.
She also has a good track record as far as philanthropic efforts are concerned so I think how you view her probably comes down to either misinformation or simply seeing things with a negative bias.

She was great in her prime, my post is mostly about her currently. She isn't as good as before and I'm not even talking about her vocals, her best songs were written with Walter Afanasieff in the 90s, the Christmas song and her first three albums.
I think she lacks musicianship now, she seems way too focused on looking hot and pretty for the audience and the lip-syncing is excessive and ridiculous at this point, clearly trying to trick people into thinking she's something she's not, it's uninspired and shallow.

Weird that I posted this months ago and her record with Boyz II Men came close to being beaten by that stupid Daddy Yankee song ::) Thanks to Taylor Swift, the record has only been tied and not beaten. God bless you, Taylor Swift!

Mariah was a phenomenal vocalist when she was young, listen to Cant Let Go and Emotions, you cant say she was shit or average at all. Her vocal ability has definitely changed over the years though sadly. Her vocals are now all over place these days and she cant do what she once could.

Most of her recent material… meh. Still, as we're heading deep into the holiday season, I will say that I enjoy All I Want for Christmas every year..
