Greece pays the minimum, and their in financial collapse, yet Germany sells us their BMWs and Volvos and shit and are actually wealthy and say screw you to America. Well I say it's time to exit NATO and give a big fat f-u to Merkel and co. Ungrateful whores.

He needs to do the same thing to the UN too.

Both of them screw the US out of money every year.    Pay your own way, bitches.

Funding for NATO and the UN are done the same.

Add up the GDP of all the member states, then figure out each member state's portion of the total.  That percentage of the budget is what they pay.    UMMMMMM, supposed to pay.

we wont pay. We are the only army of the whole european union and still are harassed by EU to keep the 3% budget while we have to support all external operation on the account of the EU.

Why was that down voted?  It's completely correct.

For decades the US has been forced to pay far more than it's agreed share (see my other post in this thread) of the bill to run NATO and the UN.

normal. the US control it and even when the UN doesnt agree with the US, they  sat on its decision ( irak war ). so of course US should support most cost.

Break it up and let the other European mainland countries pay for their defence at last.Brexit is the best thing that has ever happened in my lifetime.Thank you mama Merkel for the gift you delivered.Time to start trading with the rest of the world and the icing on the cake for me would be free trade agreements with Canada, the USA,Australia(sorry we let you down so badly when we joined this fuck up)and New Zealand.America isn't the perfect country but why should it shoulder an overwhelming burden of being the worlds 'Policeman' most of the time when other countries seem so ungrateful to it?If I was an American,I'd be pissed off with the EU.

Iraq was not a UN operation.  It was a coalition outside of the UN.

I'm on the local council.  I just had lunch.  I didn't have lunch as part of the council.

I don't know much about NATO, and I hate Trump, so I came prepared to see this argument as yet another reason to hate him. Keep in mind this man said that NATO was obsolete when interviewed during the campaign, then later admitted that he said that because he didn't know much about NATO: i.e., Trump admitted to talking out of his ass about NATO.  However, after reading a few articles and the wikipedia entry on NATO, I can't add this to the list.

My understanding is that the member nations of NATO pay the agreed amounts for direct costs (how much it actually takes to run NATO's military and non-military programs) following some formula that takes into account GDP, etc: the US ends up paying about 22% and Germany is next with about 15%. Now I believe the US's GDP per capita is larger than the entire EU, so it seems reasonable that we pay 1/5 or so of the ongoing costs of NATO. Trump and others may disagree, which is fine as long as you have a convincing argument for why this formula isn't fair and a better way of determining the share we should pay, then we need to renegotiate the treaty. No, flat costs don't make sense: Slovenia cannot afford to pay as much as the US … The indirect costs seem to be the major bone of contention. The member states all agreed to spend 2% of their GDP on defense. The US currently exceeds that at 3+%, while only five of the other states (of 28 total, I think) have met the goal.

TBH, i don't know what the point of NATO is. We don't need a huge military alliance to deal with one piece of shit country (Russia), so there must be more to it. I'm still going through the arguments pro and con.

Take away: Trump is still a dung beetle, but it's true most of our NATO allies are not meeting their commitments.

Indeed. colin powell presented fake evidence and we put our veto. But they decided to do it anyway outside UN, hence they dont give a BEEP about UN decision, hence its of no use , hence, lets them pay.  ;D
Concerning NATO, it's an all american organization reason why France opt out, so its only fair they support most cost as they make decisions. ( cf letter from Charles de Gaulle to the US : https://otan.delegfrance.org/Lettre-from-President-Charles-de  ) ( but thanks to dumb sarkozy we are back in this BEEP, at least partially, one of the reason MLepen was pro Trump was because he wanted to let go of NATO.. of course one more lie).
