      @brianboru72:

      @Dene:

      Carrie was also an amazing film to me - that scene at the prom.. just epic

      I forgot about Carrie!! There have been some really good adaptations of Stephen King books- but the one that really got me and totally horrified/sucked the life out of me at the end was- The MIST! Daaamn.  :afr2: :afr2:

      I STILL haven't seen that - I have not seen a horror movie in a lonnggg time…my mind set is very much sticking to very intellectual things now.. like DC Universe cartoons and a lot of badly acted gay theme films LOL

        You have got to watch The Mist! Just be prepared with some nice DC film to take the edge off after. Have you seen Justice League: Dark? That was pretty good and tons of fun! Have it on after watching Mist. You'll need it.  :laugh:

        Besides, there's also going to be a Mist TV series coming- and it looks REALLY good too! Be sure to watch the movie first.

        Tell someone you love them today, because life is short.
        But shout it at them in German, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

              The Changeling (George C. Scott can't be beat!)
              Hellbent (finally a decent gay slasher movie)
              The Entity
              The Innocents (as others have mentioned)

                  The Fly…saw it as a kid and it still resonates. Took an age growing up to go near the creatures, still today treat them as evil.

                          I'd like to add John Carpenter's 1982 edition of The Thing.
                          Really gut wrenching and filled with an intense paranoia unmatched by any other movie I've seen.  :afr:

                            The new French movie "Raw" is very good.

                                So many possibilities, to narrow down to one.

                                For a variety of reasons, I'll choose a dark horse – The Abandoned (2007), starring Anastasia Hille and Karl Roden.  Shot mostly in rural Russia, it is beautifully filmed, intelligent, and quite horrific – a tale of family evil, interlaced with some time-shifting themes that caused a lot of casual viewers to "not get it" and assign low reviews.

                                I also think this film suffers from a title that's shared by at least two other movies in the past decade, which is confusing and unfortunate.

                                The IMDB description for The Abandoned is really quite nondescript, but, anyway:

                                "An adopted woman returns to her home country and the family home that she never knew, and must face the mystery that lies there."

                                I have watched it possibly 20 times, and pick up nuances and subtle plot lines with each successive viewing.  The unique Russian locale, plus some visceral gore and excellent special effects, make this one to recommend.

                                  …and although there's no thread for favorite horror short film, I would choose the controversial, even transgressive, Aftermath (1994).  It's an ice-cold stomach churner that made me a real fan of director Nacho Cerda.

                                      I was a lil monster growing up all I watched was horror.
                                      I don't really get scared but the others was a super good thriller and the exorcist show is so fucking good. Well played story line and it just felt like real.
