Hollywood doesnt understand that the "emotional gore" ( precious, sad sad endings like BBM, etc) are not deep…. are just chickflicks for angsty persons.
a wish for more interesting movies :S

Even Oscars are partial to sad endings Gay Themed Film, I think only Moonlight (a mild happy ending) and The Kids are Alright are the 2 exceptions. Take for example the following nominated gay themed films in Oscars

          The Imitation Games 2014
          Dallas Buyers Club 2013
          Milk 2008
          Brokeback Mountain 2005
          Capote 2005
          The Crying Game 1992

This is the description of the book from Goodreads

Call Me by Your Name is the story of a sudden and powerful romance that blossoms between an adolescent boy and a summer guest at his parents' cliff-side mansion on the Italian Riviera. Unprepared for the consequences of their attraction, at first each feigns indifference. But during the restless summer weeks that follow, unrelenting buried currents of obsession and fear, fascination and desire, intensify their passion as they test the charged ground between them. What grows from the depths of their spirits is a romance of scarcely six weeks' duration and an experience that marks them for a lifetime. For what the two discover on the Riviera and during a sultry evening in Rome is the one thing both already fear they may never truly find again: total intimacy.

The psychological maneuvers that accompany attraction have seldom been more shrewdly captured than in André Aciman's frank, unsentimental, heartrending elegy to human passion. Call Me by Your Name is clear-eyed, bare-knuckled, and ultimately unforgettable.

Note: a couple of scenes have been released.

Here, tennis (in the book) has been replaced by volleyball:

Elio meets Oliver for the first time:

                  About the ending:

! The ending is not tragic.  Though the movie supposedly has a different ending than the book, I'm pretty sure it's supposed to capture the spirit of the book's ending, which is bittersweet.  The book ends years into the future where both men seem happy in their heterosexual relationships.

If they are going to be less dramatic about it and change the ending…

! i see both of them running to each others arms after some realization: and  let an open ending i dont like the idea. Hope they do better :s
