      @MikeChang:

      How Often Do I Need to Shampoo?

      Maybe you’ve heard shampooing less often is better for your hair. Or perhaps you’re thinking of ditching shampoo and joining the “no ‘poo” movement in search of healthier, better looking hair.

      Experts say there's no single answer to how often people should shampoo. You may not need to do it as often as you think. It usually comes down to personal preference. For guidance, take a look at your hair type and styling choices.

      “I have always said, ‘It’s fine to go a few days without shampooing,’” says Alli Webb, professional hair stylist and founder of Drybar. “For hair that’s normal in terms of oiliness and medium weight, I sometimes tell my clients to go as long as they can without shampooing.”

      The idea behind this? Shampooing too often may lead to hair that’s less than lush.

      Thanks I'll try this out

        I do it every day, when I'm showering, but I use herbal shampoo.

          Depends on how fast does it get oil, and what where you around that day.
          I does not have to be dirty, but hair does pick up a lot a bad smells. So you could get accustomed to a nasty smell if you are exposed to it all day long, but other will not like it once they come in contact with you.

                wash it when it looks dirty or smells sweaty…some hair gets oily more quickly than others: depends on the coarseness...also, keep your scalp clean even if you aren't shampooing hair often--rinse. this will help you from having hair loss.

                    you can shampoo everyday but you need to dilute the shampoo with water. about 4 parts water to 1 part shampoo does the trick. lather on the scalp for less than a minute- about 30 secs- then rinse thoroughly. the first best thing about this technique is you get the dirt out but get to keep the smell of the shampoo without stripping your hair and scalp of natural oils leaving you with fresh smelling, shiny, soft hair. the second best thing about this is that you get to save a ton of money! a big bottle of shampoo will last you almost a year.

                    for conditioning you need only less than a pea size then spread it on top to tips- not on your scalp-. once a week is more than enough. twice a month is better.

                    if you use hair products like gels, waxes, or mud, rinse it out first with running water thoroughly, then you can shampoo.

                            You'll only have certain once you consult with a dermatologist, it's different for everybody, it depends on your hair pores, environment, skin type, dry, oily, hair tends to grab smells, dirt, humidity from the air, it's hard to say without knwoing your background story, also a doctor can recommend you the right products 😉

                                  It also depends on where you live and your lifestyle? I used to live in a very hot and humid place and washing daily is a must. But then I moved to a cooler place, having a desk job, aka air condition all day and recently found out that washing less increase the hair volume / look. I reduced to 3 times a week and it's true. I don't feel any less clean yet my hair look less flat!

                                        Wash your hair when it gets dirty…make sure you are cleaning the scalp--where the hair grows from. I bet every day or every other day might do it.

                                          I generally do mine three times a week, but occasionally I'll do it more or less if my hair is/isn't dirty. I think frequency can vary between people, though, because everyone's hair is different. Mine doesn't get oily too quickly unless I'm exercising, so I don't need to every day.

                                          Just as important as the frequency (according to my hairdresser) is the kind of shampoo you use. Avoid shampoos that contain silicone/silicates (which some of the cheaper ones use). They make hair shiny in the short-term but damage hair in the long-term, apparently.

                                            Everyday with water but every other day with shampoo, shampoo dries up your hair and actually makes you produce more oil to overcompensate.
