Really? Why did you even like it? I mean, whatever floats your boat as for the genre and the plot, but the writing style is awful, it is completely ungrammatical and barely makes sense at some points. Honestly I read parts of the book and it looked like terribly written fanfiction to me.
Anyways, if I had to choose one favorite book of mine it would be Still Life With Woodpecker by Tom Robbins. Small, funny, magical and with a really deep but easy to understand philosophy. Also, Dyed Red Hair by Kostas Mourselas (a Greek novelist, this particular novel of his has been translated in many languages including English). It is a great book but you have to be at least a little bit familiar with contemporary Greek history (although the genre is not historical at all, more like romance and psychological, but knowing some stuff helps you understand the characters better.

This book really shocked me and kept me hooked into it. It was my first "adult" novel, left it's mark and set the bar pretty high. In the past 14 years it's the only book in my collection that I've kept ^^,

It's her masterpiece for sure. I also read “The post-birthday world” and “So much for that”. I just adore the writing style of Shriver, she's the Dostoyevsky of this century for me. I haven't read any of her other novels bc they weren't translate to spanish yet. And I haven't the courage to try to read a whole book in english, my only practice with it comes from participating in forums like this one and IMDb boards.

About the original question, I don't really have just one favorite book…
But if you ever pressed me to give you just one name it would be “The black prince” by Iris Murdoch, one of the best novels that I have ever read till now.
