Is it really that hard to take time out to say thanks and maybe rate the torrent
-
i really dont get the difference. you ask people to do something they cant be bothered with. but automating that is somehow wrong. so nagging is awesome, but using technology to solve imaginary issues - not so much?
-
I think the problem with full automation of the process is that it makes the "thanks" so trivial as to be meaningless.
Something is of worth only if there is a bit of effort -even a minimal one- to give it some meaning. At least with how it is now you know that if someone thanks you they meant to take the extra step to show some gratitude.
-
I think brianboru sums it up nicely

I think, I may be wrong, smbsmbsmb doesn't understand what is being said.
If people can't be bothered, that's one point. Automating the thing that people can't be bothered with sounds silly.
I am not nagging, I don't want automation. If you don't want to say thank you, that is your choice but please don't expect the site to automatically do the job you should do out of courtesy.
It's just I was brought up to say thank you if someone did something for me, whether it was to open a door or post a torrent
-
haha, on that note maybe thanks are more in order for the people who made the content that has been stolen in the first place, but no one thanks them either ;D. I know thats a bit of a dickhead point to make, I do really hope we can all be kinder to each other : )
-
Don't make "Thank you" button a rare usage….. That "click" would be really appreciated by the uploaders

-
thanks are more in order for the people who made the content
You make a good point. I say thank you to the original poster if I have copied it from somewhere else.
-

i understand very well, thank you. youre not listening to me, though. you are not saying people actually giving a shit would be nice, you actively nag them into doing something that they obviously dont and wont care about. which makes the whole thing an exercise in futility. you cant nag people into caring, two millennia of catholic church is the perfect proof for that.
-

that wasnt the point he was making. he was talking about the people who actually created the content youre consuming. uploading/copying/repackaging does not fit that category.
-
Unlike some people I knew exactly the point he was making. I knew the point I was making.
And no, I'm not listening to you because you are dealing with a different subject
Now pack it in, I'm off to sit in the sun

Thank you button is just below the download button…..try it, it won't bite and it won't numb your finger. It will bring smile to uploaders

yeah, that assumes that you actually watch the stuff you download right away. which i for one almost never do. so no rating from me most of the time. and thanking them for uploading alone seems rather pointless and arbitrary.
In your profile their is a list of all torrents you have downloaded and once you do view the torrent it is SO EASY to go to your list, click on the link and say thanks. Personally I don't care if people give me seed points for my torrents as I receive them I give them away to members torrents I have downloaded, viwed and think it deserves some seed points to encourage them to continue posting good torrents. And by the way, by giving a thank you it is easy to check if this is a torrent you have already downloaded just in case you cannot remember all the torrents you have downloaded already. Just a thought…. :thankyou:

Even if you haven't watched the download it's nice when members are thanking us for uploading the torrent and encourages us to continue uploading more even without the seed points and I would disagree that it is pointless and arbitrary to say thanks. Just a thought! ;D

Bluesurfer, you hit the point exactly

-
I rate all but only thank those I truly appreciate…and forget that sometimes. I prefer ratings over thanks on mine.

Couldn't agree more
Could I give you a thumbs up and add to your reputation

Reputation later - I'm over my limit apparently for now
Uhmmm maybe this is off topic (or maybe not).
How does reputation work ? -
Reputation doesn't 'work' - it does nothing, gives no privileges. But sometimes it is nice to make a comment. You can view your reputation comments in your forum profile.

The reason people don't say thanks or rate torrents is because the button are in inconvenient locations. If they were in a different spot you would see a lot more people use them.

I usually dont for a good reason : our completed list of torrents are private therefore I dont see why I should put my name on some torrents.
I'd rather be anonymous. The uploader is anonymous, so should be the thanks if wanted.
Add a " thank anonymously" and you'll see an increase in thanks. -

Add a " thank anonymously" and you'll see an increase in thanks. You make a very good point, something I had never considered. Making the thanks anonymously should be easy to do showing a running total of all those who have taken the time to thank a member for their upload. :thx:

i hope that this inspires people. the thanks make it worth it.
i just uploaded two very big torrents (70s Skin Flicks) + 80s Porno: Vol I) & plan to continue more in the near future.it's taken me a long time to get to this stage in my collection (which is still growing), and i want to share what i do have with people that are interested in it. plus the odd person who sees a cover and thinks that a movie is hot enough to watch.
not only have i found these from multiple sources (on the internet), i've also converted the files to a more up to date extension and tried to be accurate with years of production.
basically, i like vintage (and a lot is precondom, which is pretty hot); i'm not expecting everyone to download every file, but part of me uploaded these so that the movies live on and get enjoyed for what they are.
thankfully, i'll soon be able to turn off my laptop; seeding 19-34gb takes a while! -
I have a question regarding the rating thing: are we supposed to rate the technical quality of the film/torrent or how much we liked it?
