Ruined movie franchises?

Any movie series of trilogies that the sequel ruined the whole series?

American Pie. I loved the first three and the Reunion but the ones in between were poor to say the least.
Terminator. Again, first 3 were superb, but Salvation was awful IMHO, and Ive not seen the newest one but then not sure that I actually want to.

Adding the third one among the good Terminator films is pretty generous; I disliked it for ruining the ending of the 2nd one.
Spider-Man was ruined after Raimi's 3rd movie, and the Amazing relaunch didn't do much better. Fantastic Four wasn't great to begin with per se, but the most recent movie definitely made the property untouchable.
