Can you be gay and religgious?
-
I think you can, if you want to, there's no problem
-
One must understand there is a difference between Spirituality, Religious, and The Church. You can be gay and be spiritual and religious, however, the Church you go to might not approve of you. The Church is more a man-made construct. Where spiritual and religious is between you and your chosen god.

i had a boss like that religious and a fag, because he fired me when i refused his advances
-
Of course you can. It's absolutelly possible, like being jew and nazist. For some reason shit like this happens…
-
Jesus never said anything about gays.
As I pointed out in the sticky topic, the common thought on Sodom and Gomorrah is completely wrong.
Even if you take the other bits of the bible that are supposedly anti gay which are debunked all over the internet, why should they be considered? After all, christians do not follow the bible, except the passages that suit their personal choices.
The bible has 613 commandments, yet less than 20 are followed by christians and mainstream jews. Only ultra orthodox jews follow all 613 commandments.
-
I totally believe it's possible, even though many religious folks would disagree.
It doesn't make sense to think God/Jesus would consider one of his children an "abomination" because of their sexual orientation and then accept others treating that person like shit.
-
I don't want to belong to any club that will not accept people like me as a Member.
Yes, you are right. I'm not Groucho.
-
I think you can. Though to get a great acceptance and fellowship more than just the top world religions need to be looked at. I think there is more freedom and acceptance in some of the revival of old European and Mediterranean polytheistic faiths when it comes to sexual orientation, along with the faiths of some Native American and Oceania faiths. Mostly as these faiths and groups had roles for straight, bi, gay, and transgendered people prior to the spread of the monotheistic religions.

Think about the fact that God is at the same time male and female… and then that the 10 commandments never talk about same sex relationship, and Jesus said "the greatest commandment is love thy neighbour like thyself", so the key is love.
Maybe we fall in lust, but every man or women can fall in it in every relationship, straight or not. Homosexuality is never talked about by Jesus or the prophets. Only in the book of Levi (where there is written also that a man can kill his wife if she betrays him... how we possibly follow this rule and not "don't kill"?), but this book is a codex of law written by humans for themselves...
In most of the cases normally associated to homosexuality it's said only about deprecable deeds without expressing the sexuality involved (so we are talking again of generic "lust").Even on the Lust capital sin we can discuss. We ofthen think of it as it comprehends things like raping, murder, etc... but in reality there are other capital sins involved... raping and killing involves wrath, domination involves greed and envy... it's must not surprise that Dante Alighieri in the Divine Comedy place lustful in the highest circles (in Hell is the I circle after the limbo, lustful passion that ends hurting others, in Purgatory is last terrrace, the nearer to the Garden of Eden, the misplaced love - blind obsession that hurt only yourself and prevent you to really love - in Paradise is the IX sky, the nearer to God that hosts the spirits who contemplate god - those ho dedicated the life to him, loving him over every other people, not lust obviously, but chastity its opposed virtue).
Every thing that involves love, even in a twisted, way can't be worse than the other sins... Paolo and Francesca are in hell because or they adulterous relationship, but they loved each other and even if restless they are together forever, their assassin instead is in the deepest circle of hell because he hadn't any love in him, only envy and wrath...Some Christian Churches like modern Waldensians, recently accepted homosexuality...

Listen every body Loud and Clear - You can be gay and Religious because Religion does not discriminate but it is the people who discriminate.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) affirming Christian denominations are Christian denominations that do not consider homosexuality or transgenderism to be sins. They include entire religious denominations, as well as individual churches and congregations. Some are composed mainly of non-LGBT members and also have specific programs to welcome LGBT people, while others are composed mainly of LGBT members.
What part of the world are you in? Go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT-affirming_Christian_denominationsHere is it will tell you many churches around the world that does not think Homosexuality is a sin. I belong to a church and I believe Christ died for us all not just the straight.
Many people read the Bible and get out of it what they want. They truly never sat down and read the Bible word for word and truly understand what is being said. Many churches preach what they want you to know and what they believe and only take pieces from the Bible and take it out of text, instead using the whole story, not just a verse.
-
For me its no. I used to go to church thinking I can change myself for being gay. But the guilt is weighing too heavily on me. Eventually I broke mentally and emotionally.
I've decided to left church for the sake of my mental health.
-
Considering one is biological and the other is choice, it is totally possible to be both. You also have to consider which religion.
-
of course you can. its just between you and god. dont let the people judge you. they just playing god. dont listen people that talking about the religion rules. just read the book of what religion you believe and try to be nice person

-
Gays can perfectly believe in god, jesus, saints or whatever they want to, but being gay and part of any religious organizations is like being a nazi Jew.
-
I bet there are lots of such people. But I dont see why anyone would wanna be religious in the first place. I think religion is an ancient relic from a time people sought answers because science had not progressed far enough to provide those answers.

I am gay and catholic, and after much thought about my sexuality i came to the following conclusion.
Let's be strict. According to the bible dogma sex before marriage without reproductive purpose shouldn't be done, and althought it seems completely different in practice, this has no exclusive or exception rights for straight people. Sodomy (what straight homophobes call us all the time) involves from masturbation to oral sex straight AND gay! Sex with condoms, having multiple female partners are technically sins a well! In a post-sexual revolution world we have a giant hypocrisy of a straight society that do as much "sin" as gay people and still externalize this to homossexuality as if this was a "special" or "worse" sin that ever existed.
I researched a lot and talked with catholics priests, and they explained over and over that in fact, chastity should be for everybody, but while straight people can have a marriage and can generate life, gay people fall on the problem of the need of eternal chastity. But this do not mean that a straight guy having multiple sexually active partners during his life is better than any "promiscuous" homossexual.
What happens is that straight people, and in fact, the average-joe, hates homossexuality purely by orientation repulse: "ew, i wouldn't do that so this means this behaviour is bad". And this kinda tangles with the notion of chastity of christianity that they themselves forgot and ends up in "gay are sodomites, but my masturbation is natural and ok, even if masturbation IS sodomy". Knowing that what homophobes and their alpha male complex says is not what the bible dogma is brought me back to christianity, made me feel not as an outcast monster as I felt before. I keep as a catholic, because protestantism in general the Catholic Church understand that humans have sin, and tolerate it way more than protestantism, that keep pushing this idea that their followers are holy and everyone else evil sinners from hell.
And the part of understanding sin nature of human is the most important. Just because it's wrong nobody expects you to have a holy life without sin, although it's desire of the church and from god that this goal become reality for many people as possible. If living a saint life was so easy, we would have way billions of saints. I value religion because it sets virtue "ideals" that are good to pursue, living a life in sin it's not nice, i know because i was really promiscuous and i always felt empty inside. Even in a non-religion sense we can notice that having and accepting lots of vices and addictions are not nice, but we know that living without them is almost impossible.
You need to repent from your sins truly at some point of your life if you wanna achieve heaven, this includes the blowjob of that girl a straight guy had, or the blowjob from thay guy a gay guy had. The homophobe that brags about fucking loads of women while discriminating gay people for having any kind of sex life is the most likely to go to hell, once he never repents and have pride in their sin.
That's my opinion, and this conceal pretty well my sexual orientation with my faith. Basically I don't believe i'm doing better or worse than any average straight single guy nowadays.
-
Of course! Just because some people have same-sex attractions, then that suddenly means they can't be religious? Are religions only for straight people?
I try to put it in perspective:
It's arguable that people's sexual attractions/orientation are completely innate - it's not a choice. Then why should a minority group who's sexual orientation is out of their control be forbidden to believe in a god or hold any religious beliefs? -
Yes u can iam Muslim and gay its normal!
-
I don't think you can
Well I do believe you can, but it depends on what religion we're talking about.
Also you can be gay and spiritual which is way better if you ask me than religious.
