Janet Jackson's new Album/Tour?
-
I've heard it a lot more times now, and I do like it! I am partial to her janet. and Velvet Rope albums. I think she really found her musical style and hit her stride with those, and this takes me back there. She did great stuff before (Control, Rhythm Nation) and after (All For You, 20 YO), but that '93-'98 was prime Janet. Glad to hear that she is working with Jam and Lewisagain. They made some incredible stuff together. Her fans have been wanting that since business became personal and led to Jermaine Dupri doing too much of her stuff. It's good she's not concerned with radio - it means that she has been keeping up with trends and has decided to just do her thing (which isn't today's music), and not fall on her face trying to chase what these young people want like some of her contemporaries…..(Bxxch I'm Madonna comes to mind - and I am a Madonna fan!) If she's going the route of giving fans what they want, and it seems she is, then she'll be ok. Her fans are older, have money, and will support if she delivers what they want. Seems like she's off to a good start!

Hmmmm. Which CDs were they?
janet. & The Velvet Rope
Those are my 2 favorites, lol! I am not surprised, however. People have had issues with Janet every since Nipplegate and the Superbowl halftime show. Janet adopted the sexy image from the janet. cd going forward. Those who have issues with her usually stick to her Control and Rhythm Nation albums featuring "wholesome" Janet.

Funny, apart from songs from Control & Rhythm Nation the only Janet Jackson song I would willingly choose to listen to now is "If". I wouldn't turn off "That's The Way Love Goes" if it came on. I might chuckle at "Throb" for a bit. The new one held my attention for all of a minute. I miss Michael :blownose:

I loved the artwork for "Janet", but didn't particularly like the music. "Control" and "Velvet Rope" were my favorites. I played the new song "No Sleeep" quite a few times yesterday and I'm liking it more and more. The more she says and releases, the more interested I become in the new project. I might actually go see her live

36605domtop, I never understood why Janet took so much heat for "Nipplegate." It was not that fucking serious.. and the big thing everyone glossed over was Justin Timberlake was the one who ripped the little piece off her titty. Maybe he ripped too hard?? Whatever, it was obviously an accident.
I'm a Madonna fan too it's hard for me to connect to what she's doing now..I also feel like she's primarily chasing pop hits. I must say, I saw her live during her "Drowned Out" tour and she put on an outstanding performance.
Groovedware, I miss Michael too, but I've liked more recent Janet stuff than more recent (2000s - exploiting his vaults after his death) Michael's.
Attached is the latest promo shot from the upcoming tour.

Now for me & I am only one person the Superbowl was entirely staged. To me it's outrageously obvious how planned it was but I won't disallow opposing views. However, I will say if she had some quality product after that there would be no talk of backlash say like Justin…
Madonna & Michael I think suffer/ed the same syndrome, chasing hits like me when I've run out of product. Not just necessarily hits but relevancy. The glow of the White Heat from the White Light. I just want to shake Madonna and say "relax". Oh and dump the Tidal bs.

And what product is that groovedware??? Cheese from your Jesus Tree?

Nipplegate probably was staged. My only issue is that there were two performers on stage when it happened, yet only janet took the heat for it. It wasn't a wise move - we weren't at the cultural place that we are today for example - but I gained so much respect for her when she was like "I'm not apologizing for anything. It's a titty - get the fuck over it. "
As far as the new project, the blacklisting appears to be over. My local clear channel station has picked this song up, and it is already in high rotation - about once every 2 hours. Fans are calling in to request it. Hopefully this will be another "That's the Way Love Goes" for her.
Now this artwork, man, I had to do a double take. It's in line with "Discipline" and where she is personally, but I am not sure how well it's going to go over.
-
Yes hopefully it does well for her (or at the very least is good & interesting). I tend to be a fan of the remix with any artist and she has had a knack in the past for getting the right remixer for the right track….

I really like 'No Sleep'; it's chill, laidback and relaxing

Apparently a lot of people are liking this song! In its first week on the charts, it debuts at
#6 on the R&B/hip-hop digital songs chart
#9 on the R&B Songs chart
#18 on the R&B/hip-hop songs charthttp://www.billboard.com/charts#id-chart-category-rbhip-hop
She's off to an excellent start for the first week of airplay and digital sales. The big challenge will be to see if she can cross over to the pop charts down the road.
Correction: She's already crossed over.
http://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100
She debuts at #67 on the Hot 100. She's outdone Madonna and Mariah at least. Madonna's on her 3rd single from Rebel Heart, and "Bitch I'm Madonna" is the first to hit the Hot 100, peaking at #84. Mariah's #1 to Infinity hasn't had a hit, although it is a compilation album, so not really expecting one. The less said about 2014's "….Elusive Chanteuse" the better.

Whoa that's great!!!!! I just finished watching the BET Awards and was surprised Janet has sold around 140 million albums.
Did any of you guys see her tribute/appearance?
-
I tuned in pretty much for the Janet tribute and to see her accept her award, and for the Bad Boy Records thing because Bad Boy was that thing in the 90's for me. Janet's tribute was on point. BET has been known to mess up a tribute, but they got Janet's right. Ciara was in the zone and killed it. Tinashe was pretty good. Nothing stood out about DeRulo, but he didn't mess it up. Janet looked gorgeous in her all white jumpsuit, and some of her new "Unbreakable" diamonds line.
The Bad Boy Tribute was cool because it brought back so many memories from like '94 - '98. Ma$e, 112, Faith Evans, L'il Kim, Biggie, and Puffy, all on one stage together.
"Can't Nobody Hold Me Down". "Feels So Good", "Peaches N Cream" (112 should have done the "Only You" remix instead - they were the weak spot),"I Need A Girl (Part 2) Remix, "Love Like This", some current Bad Boy artist's shitty song (comments in link below say it's somebody named French Montana), "Can't You See"," It's All About the Benjamins", "Mo Money Mo Problems", "Finna Get Loose"
That was a pretty good overview of those years, with most of the Bad Boy artists present. The only artists missing off the top of my head were Total and Craig Mack.
I don't think we'll ever see a record label dominate the Hot 100 like Bad Boy Records did in 1997.
"Can't Nobody Hold Me Down" hit #1 for 6 weeks, followed by B.I.G's "Hypnotize" for 3 weeks. Later came "I'll Be Missing You" for 11 weeks, followed by "Mo Money Mo Problems" for 2 more. That covered Mar. '07 to mid Sept. 07. If you add in Mariah's "Honey" which Puffy produced, you get another 4 weeks at #1. Basically, it took Princess Diana's death and Elton John's "Candle in the Wind" to stop Bad Boy in 1997, and even that was near the end of the year.
The audience was eating this tribute up, singing and dancing along. Even the new song "Finna Get Loose", with Pharrell fit right in at the end. This was hands down the best "throwback" performance of any BET Awards show.
-
I really hope her next single will be like 'Go Deep'. I love that song so much!
-
BET mess up a tribute???????????????????? NEVER!!!! I could never imagine it!!!! LOL
Yes, the Janet tribute was really good and she was gorgeous in her "Unbreakable" diamond line. I just wished she performed "No Sleeep." The BET awards would have been the perfect place to perform/promote an R&B/chill type song.
The Bad Boy tribute was entertaining for me. When Lil Kim came up through the floor I said "Who is this woman? She bears little resemblance to the Lil Kim I used to know." LOL It was great seeing everyone back together though.
Unlike you 36605domtop, "Peaches N Cream" was the only song I liked by 112. I agree the performance was weak. I was never into their music anyway. I can't believe Carl Thomas wasn't there? Man, "I Wish" would have been a great replacement for French Montana

Here's a fun tidbit it seems nobody else has caught.. when Chris Brown was dancing up and down the audience (I think that was him), on his way back down towards the stage he was vouging. How befitting during Gay Pride (at least in NY)?
kairinamine, she released another sound clip (I think before "No Sleeep"), not sure if it'll sound like "Go Deep" but for you guys who haven't heard it I'll list below
-
Yeah, I was never a big fan of 112. It was Jodeci vs. Boys II Men for me, or maybe Jagged Edge vs Dru Hill towards the later 90's.
I saw Chris Brown, but didn't see the voguing until I just re-watched the clip. He seemed to be having a good time. No incidents came out of the weekend for him so good for him.
Thanks for that new clip.
Sounds like an interlude for the new album. We know how Janet likes her interludes, lol. That would be perfect to lead into something really uptempo like "So Excited " from 20 Y.O.
I was disappointed that she didn't perform "No Sleep", but at least she played the music to make people ask, "What's that?" I'm sure we'll get a video here shortly, and a slew of performances before she kicks off the tour.

Lol. I love it. It's cool though. I was wondering what she was saying in the chorus - "a fait accompli"
Well, just drop some French on me from somewhere out of the blue. -
I didn't know what the hell she was talking about either, but I was so into the song it didn't matter LOL. She could have at least made an obvious French reference before saying that phrase.

Ok, things don't look as rosy as previously thought.
