      Haven't seen Viharsarok.

But, if the movie like you described, then I'm with you.

I would really want to see movies like Bad Boy Street and Gone But Not Forgotten.

May I recommend "Shelter"? It's definitely a feel good gay movie that is well-regarded and steers clear of gay movie cliches.

I know exactly what you mean! Yeah, you have to be careful with gay interest movies. There are genre conventions for them which are stuck to a lot.
But gladly there are some heartwarming and wonderful exceptions, like the already mentioned Shelter, Were the World Mine, Beautiful Thing, My Beautiful Laundrette and The Way He Looks. I think you might especially enjoy the last one! ^^

                Oh gawd, I agree!

Why does every gay theme movie have to have a drag queen, drugged out club boy, or a crazy? Most gay people don't live in gay ghettos and are part of the rest of the world.  I guess it's not 'gay theme' if it's Stan and Dan living in the suburbs with their kids and Dan is a 'normal' bank robber or has non-AIDs related cancer.

Agree, I was also disappointed and angry after I watched that film. But the worst part is, that film was based on a TRUE story! Which is very sad. The movie was super awesome, until the last few minutes!  :cry2:

Let me just add, not all tragic GTM's make me angry. I mean CONTRACORRIENTE aka "Undertow" and "FOGI IS A BASTARD" were also tragic stories, but they didn't make me feel angry.  ::)

There's just three that aren't tragic, offer normal people and are a good watch (and no drag queens, drugs or crazies 🙂 )

I like this few years gay theme movie, like Pride, G.B.F and Gayby. Its so refreshing drama and comedy genre.

                            :blownose: Oh, dear!
It's not so tragic. There are a lot of very good gay themed comedies. Try to be not so sensitive and to watch movies with smile on your lips. We must admit that we are living with problems. Movies just want to recognize that problems and put attention to them. Ordinary life and happy gay stories are not comercial. So, don't worry, be happy.

O Fantasma was just a mess, a softcore porn movie labeled as art. Hated it.

The Way He Looks, however, is perfect. Such a sweet movie, you all need to go and watch it, you won't be disappointed ❤

Honestly it's about as ridiculous to say you're done with 'gay-themed movies' for that reason as it would be to say you're done with straight-themed movies because you don't like romantic comedies or were unfortunate enough to see Gigli or something.

There's much more of a variety now for and by gay audiences. Because you're right – for a while, you could only hope to get any sort of mainstream notice by putting ridiculous tragedy in your movie, almost as if they were trying to prove 'gay' was a misnomer. Anyone who grew up around that shit in the 70s through the 90s got sick of it, and by the time we actually had movies like In and Out, it was like a fresh miracle. You are definitely not the only one that hates the obligatory tragedy shoehorned into gay stories. It's an old chestnut I wish people would toss out.

But basically the original post here seems to be taking everything, lumping it into one bag, and deciding you hate it because it has the gay aspect to it. If you don't like tragic movies, don't take the time to watch them. It's not like this information isn't out there; you can look up keywords on imdb or look up reviews that tend to mention a film's major genres. If you don't like wacky youth hijinks, don't watch those movies…but it just seems like you're not pleased with anything right now. And I get that. It can really burn you to get into something you hope will be different, but it ends up being just another flavour of the same.

And yeah, there are vastly fewer gay productions than there are more mainstream ones. But there are loads of fantastic movies, series, books, comics, music, everything for and by gay people.

You have a whole lot of resources at your fingertips. Don't go in uninformed. Maybe you don't like spoilers, but you can still get the idea of whether something will or won't be your cup of tea without spoiling yourself. And at least in my experience, hearing about something, even if you do spoil the entire plot, is very different from watching a movie or reading a book.

Life's too short to waste time on things you know you aren't going to like. It just upsets and provokes drastic statements like this. Save yourself a lot of grief and annoyance. Just do a little reading first. Maybe ask some friends who know your tastes what they think you might enjoy, but always make the ultimate decisions yourself. There's so much out there, even online -- all kinds of creative stuff that people make independently, too, that stands a far better chance of giving you more what you want. Check it out! There's a world to be discovered.

Don't lose hope! The whole creative landscape is changing. It's just slow.

I have seen the film last year and if it is based on a true story , then one cannot alter the real ending of the lead character stabbing the other lead character and then ran afterwards…...

Gay media in general is pretty much bunk.
Even though it may fall into the category you call "cheesy sentimentality", I found Big Eden to be quite endearing.
