If you read the books before you watch the series you will have the subconscious attitude of always comparing both. It depends on what you really want. As someone who read all books before watching Season 1 I was never interested in the series to be honest. But, at the same time, not knowing when the next book will/might come out is killing me. So take your conclusions from that.

(If this has any value, the series has more "gay on gay")

Haha yeah. The author isn't really into writing homosexual scenes (he doesn't write the lots of girl-on-girl there is on the show either)

The television series is going to be finished before the book series.  Start with TV and leave the book reading for the last century.

I read the books first and I'm happy with the TV series, but I'm also the kind of person who doesn't really care too much about how an adaptation can be very different from the source.

I think this is based on everybody interests.

Movie adaptation is visualization on the every each of the book pages. In this point, lies the very huge different about the two, Book and Movie. Reading a book, our imagination is unlimited, while watching a movie, our imagination stuck on every picture that we see on the screen. In movie, we see only things what director what us to see.

Personally, I'd like to watch the movie/series first then the book. I'm kinda upset after I read Harry Potter books then watch the movies. There are a lot of story on the book that the movies cannot pictured it, even with now days high technology and visualization. So, for me, it always feeling better when I found the book is worse then the movie/series, rather than the the movie/series is nothing like the book. I really hate that.

I didn't watch the show (only the first episode) or read the books. But I have a way of thinking about this kind of stuff.

You should always watch the series/movies first, because normally books have more time to tell the story better, and also when you read it without images, you make portraits of characters or places based only on your imagination. When you watch the movie, series, you realize that its different from what you imagined, and you end up disappointed. Also they have to adapt the story.

So if you read the book first, you will probably get disappointed, what I see happening with almost everyone about most stories. But if you watch first you will like the movie/series, and will be interested in reading it, and you like that the book is even better, instead of liking the book and hating the movie/series because its different than what you expected.

Also when you watch the series, you will see the characters in the book as they appear in the series, you won't created their appearance based only on what you read.

Although Game of Thrones people like both, I always recommend watching first.

I've heard from a few people that reading the books before watching the show will cause you to compare every single detail and not really enjoy the show. I started watching the show and probably wont read the books until the show's series finale. I love the show and I don't want to know what comes next and be waiting to see what the producers have changed and what they kept. In my opinion its better to watch the altered material and enjoy it then read the source material, with the intention of watching the altered material, and then disliking the altered material because of it.

While George RR Martin may not have written much of the 'homosexual' aspects (I haven't read the books to know) I do think he is fairly comfortable with 'gay' from his guest appearance on Gay of Thrones (he appears near the end).

Spoilers for anyone not up to date with the series (it's a recap of the last episode aired).  http://youtu.be/Ig4kbS05zBQ

Also if you haven't watched Game of Thrones you should just to be able to watch Gay of Thrones.  Makes me laugh endlessly.

                            WHERE ARE MY DRAGONS?!?
