So, I got two system-generated private messages a few hours apart, namely:

What's going on with the ratios?

He pigged out (downloaded a lot) during those four hours ???
And he may have very modest upload/download amounts so a relatively small download could affect his ratio dramatically
PS As in the opposite way, with your ratio, if you downloaded a complete DVD-R and uploaded nothing it would take your ratio from 4.29 to 4.28 (figures rounded)

Oh, it never even occurred to me that the ratios might be right. I just assumed there was some sort of bug in the system. But if I feed a hamburger to my pet guinea pig, she will gain a lot of weight, but if I feed the same hamburger to my pet hippopotamus, her weight gain will be hardly noticeable.
(I don't recommend hippopotamuses as house pets, by the way, although there is this: Jessica the Hippo )
