Biking advice
-
I've been advised by my physiotherapist to take a break from running, so in the mean time I want to get into biking. The only problem is I find bike seats super uncomfortable on my admittedly boney butt. Any tips on how I can alleviate this discomfort for long bike rides?

Racing bikes have those horrible hard seats.
I use a gel cushioned seat on my bike.

Does it work well for long rides?

yes. You can also just experiment with adding some form of cushening. Maybe a foam or a small pillow or a towel

Yeah, I can ride all day with my gel seat on my mountain bike. The seat that the bike came with was so bad I could only use it for a few hours before I couldn't stand it anymore.

Bony butts are actually good for cycling seats! Find a seat that fits you and make sure you're bike is set-up properly. Visit a bike shop for help in body positioning. With proper fit and adjustments most of the weight should be right on your "sit-bones" as we call them and very little tissue or nerves are compressed. It's the big bums that have the most pain because their weight can't be carried by the sit-bones and is instead spread out over a lot of skin and muscle tissue leading to soreness.
