It's a very tough call. Africa is a sinkhole when it comes to internal affairs, and as heartless as it may sound, America needs to get it's own shit together on the subject before we should involve ourselves with anymore international issues than we already have. Hopefully as more nations move towards a sense of genuine tolerance, rather than forced political correctness, these sorts of issues will be weeded out by example. PC: cause god forbid I fail to see what the hell Obama has done of value.

Well, just because they lean a certain way before they become a Supreme Court justice, doesn't mean they will continue that.

@raphjd: Ask him to author a bill to remove the special protections that are already the law; ie religion, race, creed, color, gender, disability, etc, etc and see how he replies. What a grand idea. I just spoke to one of his secretaries and re-expressed my concerns that he support this bill, suggesting that his reasoning for non-support were ill-founded (using your example).  I wonder how the "canned" follow-up letter will read.

A Vermont teen testifies to the Senate judiciary committee on behalf of gay marriage. 17 year old James Neiley, a student at Champlain Valley Union High School, helped persuade the Vermont legislature in favor of gay marriage. His testimony is worth a look.: hXXp://www.proudparenting.com/node/2873]http://rdrct.com/http://www.proudparenting.com/node/2873 EDIT: disabled live link
  • Governor Schwarzenegger predicts Supreme Court will overturn Prop 8

The problem with Schwarzenegger is that he lives in two worlds: the progressive Hollywood world and the Republican politician world. I think personally he probably supports gay marriage, but he's a Republican. If he wants to advance his political career (as a Republican at least) he has to oppose gay marriage or at least not actively promote it. This is why the Republican party needs to divorce itself from the social conservatives. Arnold is really a Barry Goldwater style Republican, but he has to carry water for the social conservatives in order to stay respected in Republican circles. Actually I don't think he supported Prop 8 (see hxxp://www.news10.net/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=50304). I seem to remember after the court decision came down allowing gay marriage, that he said he would not support or get involved with any attempts to amend the California constitution to outlaw gay marriage. I think he figured since the court made the decision he was home free: his fellow Republicans couldn't blame him for allowing gay marriage in California, but he also got to take credit among supporters of gay rights for not opposing the court decision. Prop 8 passing is probably a bit of a nightmare for him actually. A lot of angry people are going to remember his inaction and lukewarm support for the gay marriage efforts and vote accordingly next time he's up for reelection. That's why he wants the Supreme Court to overturn it.

It should be noted that, like every President, Obama will get to pick his own Joint Chiefs of Staff. He can either choose bigots or fair minded people.
