I'm old enough to have grown up in the Zelda / Final Fantasy era so I love a good RPG or MMORPG. Into mobas, Action/Adventure and a lot of other stuff as well but definately not an FPS fan at all.  If the game has a story I like and just happens to be a run n gun as well then maybe - stuff like Bioshock I guess

I don't think there are any true F2P (free to play) games out there anymore. P2W (pay to win) seems to be the only so called "free" business model in the gaming industry right now.

A lot of the older games for the SNES, GAMECUBE, and WII are all available in the WII U digital store (Nintendoplay I think it is called) So instead of buying all the systems chronologically you might be able to save yourself some money and get just the newest system. My favorite games from last gen where the Gears of War franchise and Prototype. Gears of War was a incredible game, and made a big impact on third person shooters. After it there is no TPS without the Gears cover mechanic. And Prototype because it was simply amazing, one of the best action games I have ever played. There were some other great games like GTA IV, Alan Wake, The Walking Dead, God of War 3, Last of Us, etc… But those 2 where the biggest ones to me. By the way this new generation didn't had any games like Gears of War, God of War, those two changed everything about their genres. But this generations until now didn't show anything new, anything impressive.
