My comment relates to both the old and new versions though, how words are matched when searching.

searching for "speedo" returns different results to searching for "speedos"

the same is true when searching for "anon", it doesn’t include results when you search for "anonymous"

other examples:

speedo/speedos
fist/fisting/fisted
spank/spanking/spanked
brit/british

Which means you need to run separate searches for each of the different variations. Or you wont see the result with

I used to just accept this was the way things were, it was an old site, had some quirks. But the problem still exists. It is possible to add stemming, lemmatisation, fuzzy matching etc to help matches anything with anonymous in the title, appear in the results when a user just searches for anon?

It can seem reasonable to have that as default when you're considering words like speedo or anon... But think of the many words like a, and, of, or, car, man, fuck, ass, among so many others... The search results would be a lot broader, but in a bad way because most results would be totally unrelated.

I've not been a member anywhere near as long as you have, but I've had several "Oh! I didn't even know you USED to be able to that" moments!

i feel a bit stupid for searching multiple times these past two decades i thought myself to be very good with tech, working in web dev since the 90s, familiar with many of the cms platforms and past 5 years with magento 2

and it never occurred to me (as a user), to use a wildcard in a keyword search on a website, +requiredwords and "specific combinations" sure, and wildcards in code/terminal/filebrowser etc fine, but not in a search field on a website.

oh well, clearly this was my problem for not reading the docs (or asking the question), though i have definitely met another speedo fan (in the flesh) and we were talking about where we go for porn, he knew this site (which alone was something i rarely come across) and commented on the same issue.

genuine question, is there a reason it is not "on by default"? server load or something?

The search algorithm treats each keyword as a unique word by default. If you want a keyword to be treated as a radical you must add an asterisk.

Have in mind that search operators will not work if placed inside quotation marks, so you must simply search for anon* or speedo*.
