Gentlemen, they’re not just for hipsters and the homeless any more. While both dead sexy and totally awesome, beards are also a boon to your overall health. Researchers discovered that men with beards and moustaches actually enjoy numerous benefits including, but not limited to, instant handsomeness.

hxxp://www.newnownext.com/beards-keep-you-young-healthy-and-handsome-says-science/02/2013/

A study from the University of Southern Queensland, published in the Radiation Protection Dosimetry Journal, found that beards block 90 to 95 percent of UV rays, thereby slowing the aging process and reducing the risk of skin cancer. Got asthma? Pollens and dust simply get stuck in that lustrous facial hair. Additionally, all that hair retains moisture and protects from the wind, keeping you looking young and fresh-faced. What’s more, shaving is usually the cause of ingrown hairs and bacterial infections that lead to acne.

Have you tossed your razor in the trash yet?

To conduct the study, researchers left bearded mannequins, along with less attractive, follically-challenged ones, in the blistering sun of the Australian outback and then compared the amount of radiation absorbed by each.

But don’t forget to take care of those blessed follicles; beards can also spread infection if not properly cared for and make consumption of certain foods (e.g. cheeseburgers, corn on the cob, falafel sandwiches—anything with hummus actually, bagel ‘n’ schmear, syrupy pancakes) rather laborious. Fuzzy-faced men would be wise to take advantage of beard wash and beard oil, essential tools for looking and feeling your beardy best.

As a fuzzy faced guy who likes fuzzy faced guys, I am glad to see that science agrees

So I am stuck with either an itchy mustache or hair in my mouth. So I usually shave that part and just have the bottom. But even then, the hair comes in patches, so all I really get in a little bit of hair on my chin.

Sad thing is I can't stand how it feels when my facial hair is so long. So itchy even when it's just about 1/4in thick.

Does the itch go away when it gets longer? I don't know because I always shave it off before it gets that long.

It grew so quickly after the first six months that I had to give up on being clean shaven 24/7, and decided to just trim it down, instead of just cutting it all off. Every single day, people would say to me: "dude, you look so mature; you look like you're in your 20's." Yet at the same time they said I looked "older-younger", and now I think I understand what that means due to this thread.

Also, my boyfriend, who is ten years my senior, said the same thing when we first met. In the end, I am pretty happy.

My facial hair was 90% grey at 27 and that's when the hair on my head started turning grey.

I'm 45 now and I'm not completely grey, but about 70%.

My step dad's uncle was bald and grey at 17. His senior year highschool picture looks basically the same as he does now. Now he has wrinkles.

I've got more grey coming in now on my head to feel defeated, no more plucking for me -lol. My beard doesn't have as much grey in it tho.

WOW, what a double whammy for a 17yr old! I had a friend that went bald at 20. Went into Marine bootcamp receding a bit and came out bald.

As long as I have a fair amount of hair and can dye it a natural looking color if I feel like it, I'll be alright. I'd have to wear a hat all the time if I went too bald because I'm fair skinned, and I HATE wearing hats. Well, I'd rather be grey than bald personally -hehe.

Not bad.

Mine would be crazy by 6mos. After a couple/few months I start getting comments and jokes that I look like the young version of Santa, or lumberjack jokes, and whatnot.
The Santa jokes don't bother me. Almost everyone likes Santa, right? I get a lot of compliments, and some people telling me to trim it or shave (lol).
After a while tho, past a certain length, it gets annoying so trim it.

I first let mine grow for convenience because I was so busy with work all I had time for was eat, sleep, work, repeat.
It just grows too fast and thick, and so does the hair on my head. People trip saying "I thought you just got a haircut and it's already back?".
Not that it's ALL there on my head…I'm receding a bit.

raphjd: Did you go grey all over young? My BF's son did. He was salt and pepper in his 20's, now he's 38 and mostly all grey.
Grey or salt and pepper can be sexy.

I really envy people who can grow a beard- but at least I got hair on the top of my head that's really thick.

I had a friend like that, he could only grow hair on his neck and under and on his chin.

Dunno how old you are, but it might thicken up as you age.

I used to have very thick hair on my head. I'd trade ya some beard for some head hair if I could. ;D
