I don't know enough about Hegseth but remember Cheney and Rumsfeld.

Cheney did no-bid contracts that benefitted Haliburton, his old company. Schlumberger was the world's best at putting out oil fires but was ignored to benefit Haliburton.

Cheney shot a "friend" in the face with a shotgun after he publicly disagreed with Cheney.

Rumsfeld was such a nice guy that he lost his Senate re-election to a man who previously died in a plane crash. The governor said that if the dead guy won, he'd replace him with the dead guy's wife.
