If Florida had a similar law, it would be a disaster to the porn industry, because Florida is a major producer of porn, and a lot of porn consumers are also in Florida. Florida is not shaped like a cock with balls for nothing.

Some routers/modems have VPN built-in and/or allow it to be added. Of course, these aren't the ones you get from your ISP.

The issues discussed earlier in this thread don't need port forwarding because the laws are about the sites you visit, not the content.

No ratio problems here - but I do see wayyyyy more uploading with VPN off, than with VPN on. Internet's recognition of port forwarding turned on, is key difference.

Like with the UK situation, if you use a VPN, then how would the state know you are looking at porn and how would the porn site know the check you versus someone in a non-restricted state?

I guess it prevents those that don't have a VPN from looking at porn unless they have access to a credit card.

I just recall there being a discussion about it some time ago. I do remember when I first got the internet at my old place the ISP defaulted to a "safe web" connection, and I had to call them up to unlock my line to access over-18 sites. Changed ISPs a few times over the years with no need to repeat the procedure, so I don't know if it was that ISP's internal policy and it got carried over or the idea just got shelved.

Anyway, coming back to my original question which has been ignored, how would a similar law in Florida harm porn producers there? The industry already has age verification, and it's not like porn is something produced for a local market.

The UK wanted to bring in monthly verification cards. You had to go to a shop and buy the card with a credit card and photo ID. You had to buy a new card each month for £20.

Of course, using a VPN bypassed the need for one.

Tony Blair/Gordon Brown also talked about this, but it never got too far. The last time we heard about it, Jeremy Hunt was the Culture, Sports and Entertainment Minister.

Maybe my memory is going, but IIRC the UK did something similar a few years ago where many sites (porn, gambling etc) were blocked until you verified you were over 18. This was handled at ISP level, who defaulted to the blocked state. Once you verified once with your ISP and that unlocked everything. As such your verification details were never linked directly to any particular site.

Adding this layer of giving "Big Brother" one's personal identification would reduce the clientele for their products. Many people would be very reluctant to go to a website if their identity was tied to that website.

..but it doesn't, apparently. Even if it did, how exactly is it going to harm porn producers there, since they are already required to provide proof of age?
