I'm getting a new computer and I have close to 1k torrents that I'm seeding here. The data is on an external hard drive, but the .tor files are on my old computer. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to move the torrents to my new computer safely without losing any. I'm using Utorrent, btw.

So, if you find a version that works, at any moment you can be stuck with a new version WITH bugs.

There are some links that say that they will install 3.5.5, but they actually install 3.6. The best link to get 3.5.5 is https://www.filesoul.com/software/uTorrent/3-5-5-45271-for-PC-Windows/download/ .

Also, be sure to turn off "automatic updating" or you will get 3.6 forced on to your machine. Set that at Options > Preferences > General, by unticking "Automatically install updates."

As I understand it you can do it the easy way or the hard way (particularly hard if you have 1K torrents).

Easy way: if you keep your downloads folder path exactly the same (by making sure the external HDD gets the same drive letter on the new PC), you can copy your entire settings directory to the new PC and it should all just work.

Hard way: on the new PC, configure your completed downloads folder to point to the external HDD and then manually add all the .torrent files again. µTorrent should then see that the files are already there. If it doesn't you may need to tell µTorrent to recheck/rescan the torrent.

Good luck!
