It's like looking at the $700 billion (non-BlackOps) Pentagon budget, seeing that they're purchasing portable latrines, and then claiming the Pentagon is spending $700 billion dollars on new latrines!

Could some of that $30 million be used to buy drug paraphernalia (like better crack pipes)? Yes!
Is that the intent of the block grant? No
Is that a focus of the block grant? No
They are likely to also purchase condoms and needles (to prevent the spread of HIV among drug users - esp IV drug users)... where's your outcry that they're spending $30 million on condoms?

We (the US Gov't) is apparently paying for some kind of gender study in Pakistan. Anything and everything else we fund that @raphjd finds the least bit objectionable or excessive will now be compared to "gender study in Pakistan"

Why would it have funding for rehab? That wasn't the purpose of this specific block grant proposal. That's like saying "How dare the military's funding for the manufacturing of this jet not include money for troop housing!" Paying for jets and paying for troop housing are two different expenditures. Here, harm reduction and rehabilitation are two different expenditures.

I think the saddest part of all of this is all of the crack users that could have been helped by this program that will not receive that help. Glass pipes (expensive) help prevent lip burns which contribute to the spread of HIV and hepatitis amongst crack users. Plastic or metal pipes can cause irreparable damage to crack users' lungs.

One can take the position that we shouldn't be helping a drug user take drugs, but that's ignorant and not the position taken by the actual experts in harm reduction. Even the commission created by President Trump came back with a recommendation to distribute safe drug syringes to prevent disease spread.

The real conundrum for them are the babies of crackheads! You see, there is no expense too great to save the life of the unborn, but as soon as that meth or heroin addicted little thing is born, why they're worthless scum that should be allowed (encouraged, even) to die to save us taxpayers from having to support them!

My guess is that HHS changed its minds after it became public.

But again, there is no rehab anywhere in the program.

As a side note, Snopes isn't always the most honest fact-checker. On their own, they have had scandals about fact checks and Facebook had labeled their 120 fact-checkers (including Snopes) as opinion, not fact in the lawsuit I post about not long ago.

I have 4 cousins (same family) that all got addicted to drugs; namely heroin. Thankfully they are all "clean" now.

While they tend to support Biden, since they are still young, they are furious over this. They want money for rehab, not making it easier to do drugs.

They have a massive problem in Canada with heroin too, and they seem to think the best way to stop crime involving heroin is to legalize that too!

Democrats successfully made murdering babies legal, so I guess there is no limit to what is legalized.

It's ironic that people are freaking out about 900,000 people in the USA - mostly elderly or with comprised immune systems - have died of Covid in the past 2 years BUT nobody gives a damn that in the past 2 years, about 2,000,000 healthy babies have been aborted (murdered) in the USA.

No wonder women are fucked up in the head. There are mental consequences to having mechanical abortions or even chemically induced abortions.
