"Or consider 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse, who used his semi-automatic weapon to kill two Black men in Kenosha, Wisconsin, while waging a glorious race war on behalf of his inherited white power."

She goes on to condemn white people and men in the chapter.

In response to criticism, she is calling everyone racist and misogynist.

National Geographic has remained silent on the topic, despite media outlets asking for a comment.

I guess she and our very own Ms Feng Feng both watched Joy Reid and read The Root, Salon, and Slate. At least Kara Cooney got the city & state right though.

I thought National Geographic did nothing but post photos of naked black women? That magazine served as porn for those who could not buy porn magazines.

I'm guessing the articles I read, were referring to her references to white supremacy and misogyny in her own defense against the criticism she faced.

Also, re-read her statement about Kyle, which I quoted, in her book.

"Or consider 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse, who used his semi-automatic weapon to kill two Black men in Kenosha, Wisconsin, while waging a glorious race war on behalf of his inherited white power."

It's counterproductive for her to put this in what would otherwise be an interesting book. For example, the dust jacket notes conclude by saying,

And in mining the past, Cooney uncovers the reason why societies have so willingly chosen a dictator over democracy, time and time again.

This has been a problem over the last century, and understanding it would be helpful.

In response to criticism, she is calling everyone racist and misogynist.

Do you have a source for this? She has apologised in her Twitter feed (https://twitter.com/karacooney), but she does not "call everyone racist and misogynist." She maintains that white supremacy and misogyny are problems--which is hard to deny in the US.
Isn't that how it happened? it's in a book about ancient Egypt so it must be true
