More leechers than seeders - STILL !!!!

yeah always the iternal problem not enough seeders
or seeders with faster connectiondont know why we dont all have symetric connection
rather then adsl well one day i hope to get fiber

By the time I finish posting this - ONE file will be completed, and the other will be at 82.1% - still saying 2days to go til completion
I have been following this with interest, but hate to say it, but am going to anyway -
When I said, too many leechers and not enough seeders, I was not speaking in general, I was referring to many of the files that I have leeched and shared, and files I have uploaded for others etc.
In one case one file uploaded had 154 snatches (no offence to the female anatomy) and out of that lot there appeared to be only 10 or 12 seeders when they completed the download. According to the stats and also my client.
While the general stats provided by the apparently new owner of the site are interesting to say the least, one can't help but still wonder about the general "grab and run" situation on the site as well as others?
It would be nice to have the up and down speeds that I see from other users, who might have cable etc., but here in Oz, wer are still stuck with the 120year+ copper cabling system despite out major telco making a 4.5Billion $au profit over the past year. Oh yeas we can have cable, if we want to pay for it, a paltry 300$au just to have it from our house to the street, more if you want a complete cable to the nearest telephone exchane, and then there is the added cost of having to pay for the connections at the said exchange…
We are also obliged to pay ( in my case) $60au per month for a 512kbs speed connction with a upload limit of 28Gig and same for download...if we exceed that limit, we are capped at 64k for the remainder of the month.
Right now, it is also nice to see that the new changes in regards to the seeding bonus is making everyone happy to ...yeah right.
Anyway, I've got it all off my chest now ...so thanks guys ...

I'm not the "new owner" or even part owner, I'm just a moderator.
Tom, the site owner, is fiddling in the background making changes to the site in hopes of improving it. Plus he's been on the phone screaming at the server host to improve the service we've been getting lately.

sorry to start adding side owner comments to this for a while.. to much todo actually..
i think we did already enough with having the most taff ratio system arround… other sites allow more leecher-friendly stuff then we already do. we have 0.35 others just 0.25, till now we ban people automatically who doesnt get there ratio to 0.35 after 3 weeks.. our site user ammount grows slowly cause of many users get banned and finally deleted... we deleted more then 8000+ users till now.
people always leech, try to cheat and not follow the rules... its normal. on other sites it is even worth but looks better cauz they have 10 times so much users...
so my suggestion @playmate: stay on.... lean back and watch.... more users=more seeders..
some other people complain that nobody downloads the stuff they are seeding.. for that kind of people we should lower the ratio...
you can see, it is really hard to find the right rules for everybody.... we will never get the same opinion for all users here....
if i would know the perfect solution, i would do everythink for it to have it here - fast!

I find this discussion interesting but almost without warrant, due mainly to the complexity of the arguments. For instance I?ve recently completed downloading ?pension juniors? ? a fab movie that I?m certain must be popular. Even though I have it available for seeding no one is taking it up, I?m sure this is due to the fact that there are already a high enough number of seeders. So I WANT it uploaded to improve my ratio and because I, like most of you, feel compelled to share in the spirit of ?community? but it proves impossible.
When all is said & done, this is a fine site with a credible and welcome attitude.

My PC is on and online 24/7 and most of the time I am seeding items that I have downloaded. About the only time I am not seeding is when I am online (as it slows down my surfing when seeding).

Hi, every time I download a torrent I try 2 seed it till my ratio is 1. I keep seeding only if I see that there are no other seeders or if I see a request? i deleted most of the monies I downloaded, because I dont like them. Isn?t over seeding a bad think? When I finish downloading a new torrent, most of the time a have o ratio of 1.5 or more ?? I have the feeling that I did something wrong and not that I helped. I?m I wrong ? why seeding 24/7 when somebody?s ratio is 1?

Some over seeding isn't a problem. It's when people over seed by huge numbers that causes the problems.
There will always be people who refuse to seed back, so the rest of us have to take up the slack. This will cause the good users to over seed on many torrents.
If your client is set up correctly you can leave it to run 24/7 {if your ISP allows it} and it will seed as needed and tend not to over seed unless there are no other seeders.

we should all get symmetrical lines then i would not have a problem seeding
if not symmetrical lines (like 1mb down and 1mb up) then fiber like 10down 1 mb upthere should be a law that would make minimum upload to 1Mb
that would be cooli envy you guys with FiOS in the usa or fiber in north of europe and asia
stuck with cable and only 400kb upload between 4 people in the house

Well I have ~YET~ to see a SINGLE torrent site that has an even s/l ratio. There will ALWAYS be more seeders than leechers and if you get TOO strict than you end up losing people, including the seeders!
One part of the problem is that people don't know how to use the programs properly, I usually upload 24/7 as of late since getting uTorrent, it has a scheduling option so you can set up how much bandwidth you wanna use at any point of the day, so, when I'm sleeping or @ work or out doing shit etc. etc. I can set it up to use all my bandwidth otherwise, I only upload at 10k when I'm home using the internet, now if everyone else did this as well, this problem wouldn't occur but most people don't think they need to seed and even when they do, the only seed the minimal amount, but, like I said before, that's any torrent site you go to :lol:

Well, i'm sorry if i am one of the 'hit and run' guys. I download two or three asian and cadionot movies, and still, i spent my leisure time to seed them back. U see, i want to seed them back but i hardly get any peers. I dun know if the problem is related to the fact that my ISP is the worst ever ISP, small bandwith and all.
Right now, i'm trying to find any hot videos that i could upload. The 21 days you give…. erm.... its alrite i guess
I juz want to comment the Profile section. The edit password feature seems... too obvious. I have some suggestion though, maybe u could limit the number of download using the ratio as a basic.
Let say, 0.1 - 0.15 : maximum 1 download, limits to 50 MB per file
0.15 - 0.2 : maximum 1 download, limits to 100 MB per file
0.20 - 0.25 : maximum 1 download, limits to 150 MB per file and so onI'm juz giving u a suggestion. I might not be a good seeder
but i'm trying to give u some ideas. It may sounds stupid and easily said than done.However, i think this site still need some improvement. Couldn't u juz make the video pics open in a new window instead of popping it? I have some issues with pop-ups. They bring lots of viruses and thats why i disabled it through Firefox

Sounds like a great idea at first - if you're not lifting your weight, restrict your downloads.
But, the problem is, everyone begins at a ratio of 0. And by your plan, that means everyone starts with a file size limit of 50mb.
Who wants a 50mb file?? Talk about crummy quality viewing. The only people who would want to download a 50mb file are those who need to just to get their ratio up to begin with. But, because nobody wants to download it, their ratio never really increases.
The thing I like about gt.ru is that people don't hold back on the quality (and hence filesize) of the shares. I think the filesize limiting might work against that
A better idea might be say

This means people when they first start out will look for torrents that are in high demand to get over that hump asap - that's starts them out with the right habits, and it's good for everyone at gt.ruHmm, now that I re-read what you said, maybe that's what you meant all along? Should I still hit the submit button?…. yeah why not.

If you are into some of the lesser used torrent sections, then it can be hard to find leechers to share to. Twinks, Youngbloods and hunks will always have someone to leech to, but some of the others may not.
